Goodbye my precious....

Postby Barks » Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:45 pm

Just got a news update from Motorsport New Zealand:

AVGAS is to be phased out as an acceptable race fuel by the end of this season.....

Noooooo! No more nice smelling exhaust fumes!

Well, at least I'll be able to run an o2 sensor in the car full time....

mod edit: ONLY APPLICABLE TO MSNZ SANCTIONED NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES

THIS DOES NOT MEAN AVERAGE MUNTER IN A 4K DOING A TRACK DAY

I bet pump gas will be the only option. I know there has been alot of talk about making it the control fuel for tier one classes of racing more notably the NZV8's

Toyota racing series is meant to be moving to a biofuel of some sort...

http://www.toyotaracing.co.nz/Default.aspx?pageid=284

And the gas stations in NZ are meant to be making a 10% Ethanol blend available as of the end of 2008

Courtesy Motorsport New Zealand:

Dear Licence Holders and Officials,

Race Fuel

AVGAS is to be phased out as an acceptable race fuel at the end of this season. It will be prohibited to use it in any of the National Race Championship classes, and all competitors will be required to run on unleaded fuel.

The benefits of AVGAS are more perceived than real, and no-one will be disadvantaged if everyone is running the same unleaded fuel.

The Toyota Racing Series have indicated that they intent to run on biofuel next Season.

The sport must be seen to re responsible. While our emissions are relatively minimal it is not good for the environment to use any leaded fuels.

Alternative Energy Ahead

MotorSport New Zealand is proposing to establish an Alternative Energy Commission which will be charged with tapping into all available expertise to help plot a way forward for motorsport, in what is a fast changing environment. The intention is that it would work with and draw on the knowledge of bodies like the Waikato Institute of Technology and TORC, (the Tertiary Hybrid Open Rally Challenge).

Hummmm

Does this mean

1) National Race Championship Classes (eg: NZV8, Formula Ford, TRS, GT3)
or
2) all Competitors ...

This is two different things.

Right ... I just rung the GM. This is only championship classes.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS RUNNING UNDER MOTORSPORT NZ

Drag racing is not under MSNZ.

This effects:
GT3 Porsche's
NZV8's
Formula Fords
Formula Vee's
TRS
Production Racing Series

So far as I know, nobody in this forum is one of the approx 200 cars effected in NZ.

Can an admin please edit the first post so it says MotorSport NZ National Championship classes only?

You'll probably find they are not allowed avgas too, ,

They run on a control fuel anyway. have seen them taking sample for testing as you are not allowed additives or similar.
Was when Chris ran the truck anyway.

Indeed not. Just Championships, of which there are very few. There's loads of series, sanctioned series, cups, challenges etc etc etc that are nothing to do with national championships.

 diesel trucks on avgas

You can take this as the beginning of the end for Avgas.

I'm sure that once a consensus is reached over a suitable fuel for NZRC Avgas will be barred from all motorsport.
