Loud Exhaust - LTSA have your say.

Postby Adydas » Wed Apr 11, 2007 10:59 pm

Found this..

http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/consultation/vehicle-equipment/

Seems the public can have there say, for all you that feel you need to speak up about the proposed laws for mesuring and enforcing loud exhausts can do so.

Intresting there looking at mesuring the DB based on a cars power out put.

Drive By
MD3, MD4, ME, NB, and NC (with power output of more than 150 kW)
88

But if the cars doing a stationery test as apposed to a moving one then the KW rating wont apply it simply is 95 DB if the car was registered before jan 1st 2010

I still haven't found a car yet that matches the horrendous noise of a Harley with a straight pipe!!! Even my old datsun with half the exhaust missing was quieter!!!
Being a cyclist I haven't come across a car thats deafend me, but you can hear the Harleys from 3 miles away heading towards you!!!
But i believe cause they come like that factory there's nothing that can be done....

The don't, they do have baffles in the exhaust from factory, but as soon as the engine has been run in the whip them out, my 2 most hated noises:
Harley exhausts & rotors
Subaru GF8 Wagon
Subaru GC8 rally car project

How many Harleys a week do you see vs how many imports with over the top exhaust? What time of the day do you hear Harleys vs what time of the day do you hear imports??

Cant personally remember the last time i heard a Harley buzzing past at 3am.

Totally agree. I have jappas with rediculous exhausts hoon up and down my street at all hours of the day and night. Hell even my starlet with no mufflers or resonators is quieter than most of these systems

Roll on 28th when I no longer live down this street :!:

tested my exhaust today for shits and giggles. the car came with the exhaust and i havent touched it at all... and just before i got the car, it got a fresh warrant.

106dB peak max!

Looks like ill be throwing in a decent muffler.... i think its only got two coby resonators and the big ass black tip. Sounds good, but too loud. I make a point of driving as quiet as i can in the morning or evening...

You are aware that those classes are referring to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes?

I don't see the point in "noisey" exhaust set ups.

I know someone with an auto caldina gt that has just a tip - no performance gain but the sound. Inside the car, it's alright eventually, but if it get's above 4000RPM it's uncomfortable.

I understand that people want a faster car etc, but that doesn't mean being a dick. You can reach insanely high power ratings without sounding like a pack of molested cats.
