Where to look for BIG single plate pull clutch? (JZA70)

Hi Guys, from what i've seen, new zealand $&#$% sucks when it comes to finding a high quality replacement pull clutch for a stock 1jz flywheel and r154 box. The so-called "professionals" of the industry scratch their heads and say things like "oh no you wont find anything like that" or "anything pull-type is going to be VERY tricky to source" etc etc. :roll:

So, who here has put a decent 2600+lb single plate clutch in their jza70?
What was it?

where did you get it?

how much did it cost?

It Just has to have a heavy and reliable pressure plate, and a streetable 4 - 6 puck sprung disk, not sure what material i wanna use yet, possibly cerametallic? Options?

We're using alot of Exedy Sports tuff(girly pink ones) kits on 1UZ/1JZ etc now. Got sick of other brands being inconsostent or short lifespans etc and have had nothing but good results from the Exedy pinkys.
The 'HDB' (heavy duty button) kit is prob what youre looking for.
We are using the 9.5inch push jobs, but there is a pull version available for the R154.
Like anything, you get what you pay for- and it pains me hard handing over $8-900 for a clutch, but after frying plenty other cheapish ones, its cheaper in the long run.
From memory the R154 kit is around $1500, check with BNT anyway.
Other option is making 'push' conversion and using W series style flywheel and clutch setup (just a cheaper option for clutches really)

last time i priced up a clutch kit for 1jzgte it was roughly $1650 complete with flywheel. cusco stuff

Thanks guys. The problem is, i can get a real good clutch kit from the states for around $1000 delivered (horsepowerfreaks.com). Its a 62% stiffer p/p (ACT) and 6puck sintered bronze sprung disc. By all accounts they're a very capable clutch (5-600rwhp no sweat).

I was just hoping to get one for similar money in NZ. Would rather not do the push conversion if i dont have to, i really want to keep things stock-like in this car.

So it sounds like exedy is all we can get here right? Anyone else?

Yes, they are one of the aforementioned "professionals"

They said they'd rebuild the stock one i have to be heavier with a puck disk - would rather not go that route.

Get in touch with Adrian (Mr Oizo), he imported a Spec Stage 3 clutch a while back when he still had his JZA70 and from memory he paid less than a grand for it landed from the states.

He should be able to tell you who he went through...

AFAIK geniune OEM is about 900, TRD is 1600 ish.

The TRD PP isnt overly heavy, that said pull clutches and push clutches cant really be compared via the same LB measurements (afaik)

SK, i know where to get a spec clutch, but they're aparently just re-built stock clutches anyway - want something a bit tougher - horsepowerfreaks ACT h/d with 6puck sintered bronze looks like the way ill go - around a grand all up. Would've been nice to get somthing on out shores tho - ah well.

I got the RPS MAXX cover and the Horsepower Freaks Feramic to go into mine. Really good build quality and WAY cheaper than anything here in NZ.

when are you orrdering yours as i wouldent mine getting one also to save us both a bit on postage if you get from HP freaks
