Mivec questions?

Postby rollas22 » Wed May 02, 2007 9:12 pm

Hey guys im looking at buying a new car, an ive spoted a Lancer Mivec 1995 4door sedan
It has all the evo kit 17's etc.
But its done 250,000kms - is there any problems with these cars?
Comon faults etc

I know this is a Toyota site, but im sure some of you would have had experiences with MIVEC engines

Thanks heaps

Callum

Mate, as it is all mitsis fall apart, and you are thinking of buying one which has done 250,000 kms. The only thing which will last that long and will last longer without problems is toyota. I would stay away from mitsis.

Mileage is a bit high...Otherwise try http://www.mivec.co.nz for any obvious issues a potential purchaser should look for. That way, you avoid all the grippers spouting "Mitsis's blah blah crap" posts.

I had a lancer mivec turbo thing about two years ago, can't remember much about type etc. (bought because of peer pressure).

It lasted me well for about 25,000 kms, from around 175,000 kms, so I reckon that's pretty high k's.

Only problem I had was I was always topping up the oil, other than that I spent nothing on it in terms of fixing things.

Common problem with mivec is they loss oil pressure which stops the MIVEC from actuating. Things like a damaged sump effecting the oil pick up and the Solenoid dying...I've owned my little Mivec mirage for nearly three years now and have trashed the pants off her. I would certainly go for one but like any car make sure it has been well serviced.

If you want info on mivec go to www.mivec.co.nz as that is the veritable plethora of info on all things Mivec and there are some very clued up people who can help you more than a toyota forum.

Check the roof on it, Many a person i know with mitzi's have had to do stuff to the roof to get it through wofs.
Mivec motors are pretty strong really, don'y have to many problems with them blowing up and they are built to rev pretty well. They have a cold cut which also stops anyone really going crazy when they are cold and so long as they haven't been left with the same oil in them for a long time should be good as anything you are going to buy with that many k's tho.
Definately check the roof though
