I saw these...

They mention that they have optimized water drainage. Does this mean that they will still be ok in the wet. The idea of slicks and water has never mixed well in my mind... can anyone shed some light?

well from the look of the tread pattern they will remove some water... but my guess is that in mild to heavy rain you will loose traction...

I run R888s on teh charade, and they are fairly slipery in the wet! A good road tyre will out perform them in wet conditions from my experience.

I've had the same experiences as TWSTD on R888's. They're a good allrounder, but not overly fantastic in the wet.

If you're looking for a good performer I've heard plenty of good things about the Dunlop DZ02G and I'd imagine the new DZ03G would be pretty similar.

Notice how every second groove does not make it to the outside of the tyre?

That means they are only half as good in the wet as they look.

Also tread depth means a lot in the wet too.
The tyres I run in the wet are good when they are new, quailfied on the second row in the rain, but when they were 1/2 worn or more I qualified at the rear of the field.

( so small print says always buy new tyres to go to Teretonga)

I have run my Yokohama Ao32s and Ao48s in the wet they are adequate but not as good as my GSD3 F1s they just seem not to get enough heat into them to work as well and even though they do have a grooved pattern on the tyre the GSD3 F1s get rid of a whole lot more water and give better wet weather performance.

Semi slicks are fine in the rain... they are no worse than the cheapest budget tyre. You just have to drive much more carefully (and slower) in the rain.
So probably not a good idea if other people drive your car as they might get use to the handling in the dry and then wonder where the traction went in the wet.

I run Toyo RA1's.

Great in the wet (as long as the there is adequate groove depth left)
Best brand new in the wet - apparently once the edges of the tread/groove are no longer sharp the wet performance of any tyre reduces.

Remember that in wet conditions (not hydroplaning!) your grip will only be 80% of dry grip.
Hydroplaning just about 0% grip!

After taking out my 'pretty bald' dunlop xxx semi-slicks on a moist but semi-dry track, I'm about to flag the whole semi-slick class and buy a new set of full-slicks for tho great days at the track. I plan to use the GSD3 F1's in the wet and for sprints.

Ive found my dunlop semi's took a lap or two at the track to heat up and thus were no good during a road sprint.

i run toyo t1s (now t1r) and they are great for dry and ok in the wet, only loose traction under heave acceleration, the pic in my name is a t1s

Used to have t1-s on my car. Used to good in the dry but crap in the wet. Never used to last for long either.

I think from memory the T1-S was replaced with the Proxes 4.

Off topic but,

I've run T1-R's on my MR2 on the track (in the dry), and I thought they were crap. Once they heated up, the car was all over the place. Don't know what they are like under race conditions in the wet tho.
The good ol dunlop GIII I've found are much better in the dry for me.

all the road tyres are not really designed for track racing ie T1R, GIII etc.

The RA1 is awesome in the wet when they still have sharp shoulders, dad was still doing 1.23s in the wet with them around Manfield.

Allt he guys in the Bimmersport club said the R888 isnt very good in the wet at all. Unpredictable.

Seriously looking at these tyres for $180 a pop not too shabby. Soes anyone know what they wear like in general road applications probably bout 30-40 mins at a time?
