12 volt- driven turbo

Make---Turbodyne
bought new $2600
petrol or deisel
less than 15 min run time, as new.
This one is suitable for 1500 to 3300 cc
Tryed to fit it to van, no room under bonnet, project abandoned.
must keep all compressed air ducts short.
no oil to worry about.
All parts are bolted on outside of motor no pulling motor to bits.
can be fitted at home with average
nohow, some electrical work here.
no high pressure duct pipe, all used. Installation instructions and data.
will answer any questions if i can.

There's been 100s of different electrical superchargers/turbos posted on here over the years...

i dont think one like this has been covered before now has it?

We all know the CPU fan in the intake does squat!

This however looks like its a bit better than the other types :o

from the pic it looks like a centrifugal supercharger... I wouldn't have thought that a 12v anything powered by a car would give enough torque.

belt driven from the crank it should be fine though.

It is just a turbo with the exhaust side taken off and an electrical motor put in it to drive it... could be an interesting little thing.

You need the power of 20 alternators (give or take) to make substantial boost, that is a few hunderd amps from 12v supply, very thick cabling, massive motor.

There are electrical superchargers available.
Ive seen what may have been a screw type one with about 3 starter motors attatched to it.
But the amount of battaries needed to drive it would probably make the car go slower

I am not sure how much power is needed to run a supercharger but my bet it would be somewhere between 10-50kW, and that is a lot of power for a 12V system to handle, you are far better of using 3 phase motor with 500V AC to drive that, but than again you will need a 500V battery and an inverter to handle that, and the motor size will be quiet large, so the whole thing is counter productive.

Sure it would take a lot of power to drive but in 'normal' driving how long do you actually need boost?
a couple of capacitors close to the unit would IMO give you all you need for the occasional passing maneuver.

Some of it still applies, like sergei said, it would need huge cables running to it, plus heaps of other junk that makes the idea stupid.
