F#$king Beltronics!

Postby FST4RD » Wed Apr 30, 2008 7:19 pm

My poor Beltronics XR400 radar detector is having issues....
Quite often it starts beeping and flashing up "LO3 CAL" "MARKERS". After much searching on the net the manual is not available... so I emailed beltronics to see if they had one or knew what was wrong with it.
They emailed back "I can help you with your query… the messages that are being randomly displayed are telling you that the unit requires a software re-calibration. We can carry this out for you for a small fee."
So I emailed them back to ask where and how much
They replied "Please post it to our repair centre in Taupo… they will repair it for $125NZD. Please include all your contact details and a good description of the fault so they know what to look for."

$125!!! Small fee!!! I'd hate to see what a normal or large fee would be! I don't even know if it's worth this much to be honest....
Anyone know of anyone that can sort this in Christchurch for say at least half this price?

Did you buy it brand new? If so, how long ago?

My reply would be something along the lines of "I didn't pay for this thing to flash incorrect lights at me. You fix it for free."
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

She's pretty old but damn reliable, well was!

Only thing is that if the software needs calibration does that mean it's not so reliable anymore....

You could try Parrotts in Chch, they do calibration of police radars and stuff so could possibly help. I don't know for sure though.

Thanks for that! Never thought of that....
I don't really want to buy another one as I hardly actually use this one...
Mainly for interest as I don't speed.... and I actually mean that!

On a side note, what is happening with the law to ban radar detectors??? Has it been passed or is it just a "here today, gone tomorrow" thing?

Don't think they're banned yet....
There was fierce opposition to it.
