Hey guys.

Normally im not the one to buy into this type of thing... But now its over $2 a litre...

Basically its attempting to gather enough people together to form a buyers group that is big enough for companies to care about.


Its basically going to be just like a fuel card for a company, but not credit.

If you don't belong to one of those type of group, this one seems pretty tame/not going to spam you with deals

I have a fuel card through my work, and on average the discount is about 6 c a litre. I have had 16.x cents a litre off before.
I think the way the one I have works is the price i pay is what the end of the month cost is, so sometimes its less, sometimes more than the pump price. But yeah the 16 odd cents was the most I've ever had.

I cant see how anyone would be able to have steadily 10c a litre off

Fuel companies margins is 4c (at the pump).

But they also make the money in the making, transports, importing etc of the product. Thats where the real money is for them

I would tend to agree with this since Shell and BP announced how many billion dollar profits......
But then you have to think that they sell oil and other products which would increase their profits...

I got an e-mail along the same sort of topic, I got the same e-mail from 3 different people saying not to buy from BP at all, not just dont shop for 1 day but dont shop there ever. This will then apparently force them to drop prices, thefore forcing other service stations will lower to make a competitive price.. then and if I sent it to 10 people and they send it to 10 people etc etc it will reach millions of people and it will actually work.... "apparently"

Just do what I do... Push bike everywhere and only take your car out on sundays to keep everything moving.... That would really get to the fuel companies!

Think of everything that uses oil. Of course they will make billions even with tight margins, they are playing with massive quantities.

Pretty much everything, from plastics, oils, all sorts of household products, pretty much every industrial process, and everything that moves requires oil or a byproduct of oil. It not like they are just selling a few million tonnes of cheese and milk..

BP's breakdown from their website:

8% is 'Operating Costs', which supposedly includes retail and wholesale margins.

49% is 'International Cost Of Product', which, as somebody suggested further up this thread is probably paid by BP New Zealand to BP International (or whatever name they go by internationally).

but, this is the annoying bit:

40% is Tax. Why does the government not lift a finger to help motorists in this country? Because they are one of the main beneficiaries with prices this high. Intersting passage from the Caltex website on this:

41.6% of the pump price is tax and duties, comprising gst (12.5%), acc levies (about 5-6cpl), with the balance going to the Government's consolidated fund. Despite considerable public pain over increasing prices, the Government has made no moves to reduce its tax take (in fact, as gst is a percentage, increased prices yield increased gst tax paid).

(On a side note it is intersting to see that the BP site quotes figures from 2007. It's funny how fuel prices go up overnight but the can't even keep their spin up to date)

Hmmm i signed up - what have i got to lose? I almost died when I filled up the BZG with 96 and cost me close to $88.

Back when I had my first BZG it cost me no more than $50 to fill her it. It's a joke now. Herald was saying yesterday that depending on how the NZD holds up agains the USD, we could being paying $2.50/l by august...

Time to move to Aussie and buy a scooter i think.
