Recommend me a gearbox specialist

Postby Akane » Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:09 pm

Since the Suzuki is outputting so much power, the gearbox is making a funny straight cut noise on right hand corners only, anyone that can recommend me a decent gearbox specialist to get it rebuild?

Thanks in advance.

Suzuki in general seem to build gearboxes from top quality fail.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

There's a place on Kaimahi Road, off Target Road, which I've heard is pretty good, I can't remember the name though, sorry.

Gave them a call, I told them it makes a noise during right hand turns (louder), and still makes a noise going straight, but not as loud and quietens down after it warms up, they said it might not be the gearbox lol @ me, but they quoted me and it seems like a decent price might hit them up tomorrow, cheers guys.

is it just a 2wd (ma61) or is it 4wd one (mb61)?

it's a MA61S FWD, the gearbox is off the car already (took me and Chalkie 4hrs+), I don't know what it is, Chalkie thinks it's the CV, car has done 61,500kms but the car has had a VERY rough time from the previous owner.

The clutch was slipping, our original intentions was to do the clutch, me and Chalkie took the box off and found the clutch is in PERFECT condition.

So I think what happened was the previous owner grinded out the clutch, put a new one in but this flywheel is a step flywheel setup, they skimmed the contact surface but not the step, creating a bigger gap, not enough clamping pressure, hence it was slipping like crazy, and flogged it off for cheap.

I knew it was a protential lemon, but I got sucked into the limited run of special edition Wagon R's, hmmmmmm.

Have had one in the MR2 already, the girlies ain't gonna be impressed with the sudden clutch gripping in the Wagon R. And now I have 2 perfect friction plate (stock), 1 new pressure plate, 1 used pressure plate and a flywheel that's probably not skimmed properly.

Taking off flywheel tomorrow to get it skimmed properly and get the gearbox looked at.

Will update on progress.
