Well about a month ago my celica failed on a cracked front headlight (Now Replaced), Broken Steering rack with power steering fluid 'gushing' out everywhere and weak struts all round.

Well today i got the car checked out at a different mechanic and nothing was wrong with it. I did find out that the fluid under the car was from a gasket at the top of the engine, not the power steering fluid.

The bloke who inspected my celica for a warrent a month ago basically failed my car on uneccecary things, he even mistaken the drive shaft for a steering rack. The reason i said that because the steering rack was on the firewall so it was hard to see and the cv boot on the drive shaft was broken so he might have got mixed up. But as a qualified mechanic, i didnt think he could make that kind of mistake.

I was going to name and shame the mechanic but thats not fair and the owner was an honest guy, it was just the other mechanic.

What a b*****d! Almost made me sell my car

I know a handfull of these mechanic WOF guys, they try to fail you on bullsh1t things if you look innocent enough, and offer you to "fix it" at their shop for a "cheap" price.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

these sorts of people are everywhere, not much you can do.
you are ( think, never had a problem doing so anyway) entitled to pay the fee again somewhere else if you doubt the original inspection, although results are recorded and can be seen by anyone looking up the car on the wof system.

I'd be heading back to the original WOF inspection for a refund to be honest.

They have not provided the service you have paid for to a suitable standard so I would be causing a stir. It might bring a incompetent inspector to the companies attention, or they may have done it before.

Go back and make a scene, demand your money back and tell them you will be going elsewhere from now on!

Or, if you still like the rest of them, demand that that person not check your car ever again

You're paying for a service to be performed up to a reasonable standard.
You didn't get what you paid for, and had to go somewhere else to prove it, so demand your money back I reckon.

Nothing new, some mechanics just try it on to get more cash. Its strange when a strictly WOF shop fails you on BS....

I used to go to a WOF place down Wairakei Rd for years. Must have changed hands and the next time I took our BMW in for a WOF the new guy fails it on the park lamps being ineffective :?

I go home and test them that night, and checked the LTNZ site, which states something like 200m visibility under normal darkness. I walked halfway up the street and could still see them. Went back and hit him up, he didn't care and told me to fix them. Went somewhere else and it passed no problems.

I had similar issue with VTNZ. Failed my Mu for Idler arm and Draglink. He told me the draglink was so bad that i shouldnt be driving on it.

Took it to mechanic to get them sorted out and mechanic checked them and there was nothing wrong with them.

I think some of them really hate people, i.e are in the completely wrong job, some are just having a bad day like we all do, and if you point it out they realise there mistake, and some are just c**ts
