Speed Cameras & now new Laser Guns

Guys,

Ive got a V1 (and laser Jammers) works superbly, well at least I thought it did. But Ive driven past a couple of speed camera vans and it hasnt gone off (no tickets as I saw them). Picks up cop cars mint still, so dont think its a prob with the detector as they are both in the Ka frequency. Now I read recently that the cops had some new cameras but I thought that was only the photo mechanism (moving from film to digital) rather than the detection mechanism.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Confirmed new K band mobile speed cameras.

Just spoke to a mate last night his old man is a Senior sergeant and he confirmed new K band cameras plus the cops have new laser guns. Im waiting to find out if they have moved from 901nm beams.

didnt think that cameras, the van ones or the poles, were detected by these sorts of things?

Unless the vans connect to some wires in the road (how the pole cameras work) I would have thought they'd give off some signal. They always used to.

Post up the serial number on the v1 website and check the version, its likely that you have an older version that isnt detecting the form of radar they are using

My Beltronics is an old model (2006) and still picks up camera vans (i measured by gps, on a straight road it gives me 400m warning). I havent upgraded it either.

The old transport minister was wanting to, but he was labour and he's not even in parliament anymore, so dunno if anything is likely to happen in the near future regarding it.

mine picks up vans, but only weakly, as you pass them....

near where i live they have pole mounted speed signs, they took them down and have only put one back. now my detector doesnt pick it up...

have you seen what they have int he UK? cameras in cop cars that recognize number plates and automatically check them for insurance tax etc as they drive along the road....

for speed camera vans my v1 gives me time to hit speed cut, slow down, stop do a burnout, speed up, get up to loss of license speed again and then slow down and wave as i drive past.

I have gone past at times during set up or pack up, where the camera hasnt been working.

Sometimes they park up and dont have the camera on, just visual deterant.

They have these in NZ already.. runs a check instantly... might have same technology as the toll road on the northern gateway. all computer done now...

Its van cameras. Unless they have laid cable in the road and are just hooking the vans up to it remotely. Possible I suppose.

I have a version 1.8 valentine and it was picking up cameras in vans fine, in fact, with massive warning giving plenty of time to slow down. As noted above it is still workign well detecting Ka frequency from cop cars whic is the same freq as the cameras were/are

My mate dropped around last night who has had the same expereince with a V1 that day with a van camera in Wellington.

It could well be that they are being used as a deterrent and not being turned on, but I would rather know that for certain.

You have to go in to programme mode and turn K back on. (detectors sold as NZ ready have K turned off)

down side is K band is used for a lot of domestic and commercial radar applications. auto doors and the likes.

Source of this info came from the chap who calibrates the cameras.
There done on a service road that runs parallel with the main runway at AKL airport.
Freaked me out the first time I drove down the road in my work van. (using valentine v1) it came up with 6 bogey counts. as there is no speed limit on the road and its private, lets just say the transit was humming. brake check!!!!”

Oh well guess we will have to put up with more false alerts.

yeah was going to say the ones iv been past were not KA band.....
they popping up in the burbs a lot more now to. i see them in tawa and churton park a lot

Partners old man is in volenteer fire service and cop showed him when they were at a crash mid last year - was in the car for sure

They're quite often taking pics of trucks, so they can prove the trucks whereabouts when the logbook is checked 2 weeks later and it says the driver was 1000km away, having his smoko break......

I've always wondered why they don't just setup solar powered emitters on whatever the common detection bands are to random power poles.

It'd make the use of radar detectors close to useless as they would be going off all the time.

Maybe the cops don't think smartly.

Because they'd rather spend that money on putting actual cops on the street?

That, and whoever owns the poles would probably tell them to get lost
