New track car - need some info

Postby Jazza » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:44 pm

So, despite the fact ive been away some time, i havnt forgotten my car. Im about to buy a car tomorrow already fitted with a cage, and set up to race, all i gotta do is sort the engine work.

Few questions i have.

1. Regarding homologation of the cage, who has been down this road and can you run me through it real quick? Im a tad unfamiliar, am i right in assuming, i get the paperwork sorted, photos of unpainted cage etc and apply, meet up with some fellow at a track day and he signs some paper (skipping the important bits in my description)?

2. Registration/cert/warrant/vin - all to be done by the various people who do them after the homologation is done? The car was dereg'd after it was wrecked, and now to reregister it (once again, have never done it) i follow a similar track with paperwork etc?

Cheers in advance

correct. post ya paperwork and some money to msnz, they'll issue you a logbook for the car, and a rollcage homologation number. then at your first event a scrutineer will check the cage meets the described paperwork and sign ya log book.

Then for your WOF you'll need to get an Interior Modification Certificate. 99% sure that a scrutineer does that for you too.

Thanks guys, ended up biting the bullet and paying 10 bucks to call MSNZ in wellington, VERY helpful down there, gave me every form i need, and told me how to do it.

Another question, any ideas on good clubs to join? At the moment its looking like Auckland car club, or pukekohe car club, dont know anything about either, and obviously i need an affiliated club to get it homologated.

Well, shes home and ive taken most of the ugly ass stickers off her. Gotta give the locks some adjustment, get the power steering belt on, get the boot latch lined up right, and shes good to go. Kill switch is kinda hard to get used to, i keep panicking trying to turn her on and wondering why she wont even go into ignition...

And yes, shes locked in an alarmed garage, with no locks working 8) :P
