Insurance recommendations

Postby Jazza » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:58 pm

Searched and cant find anything listed similar.

Basically, im looking to insure my EG which will be complied this week, want every mod listed, and value of vehicle at around 5k, with mods at value of 2k. (7k total)

Suspension - Lowered
Gauges
Fire extinguisher
Air-intake in the front bumper
Hood-Pins / Bonnet Pins
Alarm
Kill switch
Replacement perspex door cards
Stripped interior, from doors back
Battery relocated to behind the passenger seat
Exhaust
Air Filter
Sports Seats
Two 5 point seat belt harnesses
Roll Cage

Ive tried the norm, AA, state, ami, tower etc, who all fob me off to their sister companies.

Clic = 1250 a yr
NAC = 900 a yr (With their BS multi excess crap)
InsureDirect = 900 a yr

So my few questions are has anyone dealt with insuredirect? And does anyone have any other companies theyd recommend? Im happy to go with a broker, but if i do, i want good service, and quick responses. I also have 6 years of spotless driving history and am a 21yr old male. If yes to broker - please PM their details and if you dont mind, what youve got insured and approx prices?

Thanks in advance.

Try Megan at bay insurance, there was an insurance companies rant a while back that had the details in it,

They can do race car insurance which covers you for everything except when your actually competing (Even covered on touring stages if you are doing rally)

Just insure it for 3rd party only and don't do anything dumb with it. After about 3 years you would have saved enough on insurance to make it worth while.
Remember that you should factor in the cost of the premiums and excess if you want to work out how much insurance would cost for a car... cos it's only worth anything if you end up making a claim.

Was thinking of going down this avenue - but 20 bucks a week to know my car is fully covered doesnt bother me..

Also - said companies wont insure my car for third party due to the roll cage.

Seconded :) Megan sorted the insurance on my Swift, and will organise my other cars when they are ready to go.

surprised at clic, I pay 600/year with them although not a 'modified' car

I would be letting them know what NAC offerred, as thats who they are competing against, you may be able to lever them down.

Theft 900 bucks(Car will be garaged with a hard kill switch, plus immobiliser)
Crash 1.6k
Crash with Mrs driving 2k

So not bad. Im thinking i will go with clic if the broker cant do too much more for me.

One company quoted me 2.5 PA for full cover and i laughed at the lady and she didnt know why. I said im getting quotes of 900-1500, why is yours so much more, and she said:

"I believe the quotes you are getting are probably for third party only"

I replied

"Well, im reading it and it says full cover"

She replies

"Does that include third party, fire and theft?"

I basically hung up

I say Classic Cover... they insure my race car (which is road legal) and it went from $600 a year to $288 and the excess' are reasonable.

They are a company that deals in competition cars and I rate them highly. If you have a roll cage and use it for competition then give them a try for a quote.

I hadnt asked but apparently they don't have to refund you according to target/fair go. There something on it a few weeks back.

They probably will refund it, its high volume business and not worth the time to find out why, they might not refund the whole lot though.

You could try TIS Insurance, its an agency through India Insurance, one of the dodgy BBB rated companies but backed by their government. I wouldn't put my house with them as you'd want to make sure the $500k is going to be paid, but a $7k car should be sweet. A mate looked at them a while back for a similar car and it was pretty reasonable.

I setup my policy with NAC, then found out i had a $5k theft excess (wtf!). I had already paid the monthly payment. Got a new policy through Megan, then told NAC (through my old broker) to cancel the policy, and i got a cheque last week for the payment i made.
