Was down at Teretonga this weekend helping out with the
AE101/2JZGTE Enduro Levin Team again,
and so thought i'd do a wee write up on how our weekend went.
First qualifying session and the car was down on boost and power,
we tried to do what we could but could not get it better so had to run with what we had.
Second qualifying session and it broke the rear universl joint in the driveshaft, so no drive and it took out the diff cooler.
Raced around and fixed the driveshaft with a new joint and got the car back together just before the start of the race.
Started from near the rear of the grid and go thru to about 5th?
which we good considering the lack of straightline speed.
A bit later it started erupting smoke so we came in and it had melted one of the hoses from the brake resivoir to the master cylinder,
and the brake fluid was leaking onto the exhaust and turbo's.
Fixed it but lost a few laps, (about 5?) and back out again.
then at about 1/2 way the driver reported no drive and suspect slipping clutch of similar.?
Cam into the pits and put it up and stands.
Then ther was a major crash on the track and they redflagged the race.
Under the rules your not allowed to work on the car under red flag conditions so we were not able to determine the exact cause but had narrowed it down to the diff or a broken axel.
So we waited for about 1 1/2 hours for the crash team to cut the guy out of his car and we all sat around waiting and waiting.
We did decide that whatever the fault was we needed to do a diff change,
as if the diff was buggered it would fix it,
and if it was an axel, the locked diff instead of the LSD would allow us to finish the race one wheel drive.
When the race restarted we did the diff change and ended up one wheel drive for the remainder of the race that was shortened to 2 hours from 3.
So we crossed the line and finished the race, but due to not managing 75% of race distance, we were classified as a no finisher anyway.
Next Enduro is 17th 18th of October at Levels.
