the 1st 2010 tyre thread

firsty sorry about starting another tyre thread but would like some help.

ok I've bought some rims (which came without tyres) they're 16" by 7.5.
Now I know buying tyres in 16" is a bit hard, however I thought I'd found some good tyres 215/45R16 86W (max load = 530kg & max speed = 270km/h) 7.0 - 8.0 (fits rim width) the weight of my celica should be between 1,200kg- 1,400kg (I'm guessing)

now the reason why I'm saying the weight is apparently I "have" to have 87 or higher or else I wont pass wof (going of the little sticker, which talks about standard tyre sizes etc inside the door). Now the funny thing is back when I had my 15" wheels I bought some tyres from the same shop, different salesmen. I bought 205/50R15 86V

checked the vtnz website nothing about the tyre weight thing, only tread depth, the condition of the tyre and spare tyre.

DZ101's or RE-11's, few others....not much out there in that size, tis what I need too.

Most WOF places are not that smart. All they do is check the tyre condition (cracks etc) and tread depth (min 1.5mm I think)

Michelin PP2s.

In 16s they are available in 225/50R16 92W to a 225/55R16 95W.

if i was you, i'd get rid of the rims and go for some 17's or 15's.

purely for the cost of tyres.

if you insist on keeping the wheels get hold of tsoob on here for some good deals, haven't used him, but have heard good things.

and most wof inspectors these days will not pick up on the sizing issue so i would worry more about how happy you are with the tyre then the wof man.

You can go two points lower, So you can go as low as 85 Load Rating

Well I've checked the vtnz wesite, and there is nothing on the tyre load, and yeah I have to agree with you, thats all I've seen them check aswell.

I run Bridgestone RE001 92W 225/50/R16 on my GT4 (stock wheels: 16x7.5), 225/50/R16 is best fit for Celica as the speedo is 99% accurate.
17" will be unable to run normal profile tyres (suitable for NZ roads).
15" might have brake clearance problem and will look silly (plus profile will be too high).

I would rate them excellent for their price.
I have switched from GSD3 and I am very happy. They are slightly cheaper than GSD3.
For the money they cost they are best tyre out there.
Only "issue" is road noise. Performance does not fade with wearing them out. They seem to wear at similar rate as GSD3. They feel better than GSD3 (the transition between grip and no grip is a lot smoother).
They seem to have harder sidewall.
They seem to be of higher quality (made in Japan) than GSD3 (made in China or Australia if you are lucky) as they have little to no weights put on for balancing, when I got them fitted.
You can properly rotate them being asymmetric and not directional.
Awesome in the wet.

Things to be weary of with that size:
1) is you car lowered? they might touch the guards
2) is your car SS or McPherston? as they could have different strut clearances

My celica is stock standard and that tyre is perfect fit (clearance - plenty of room, been bottoming out suspension a few times on dodgy roads and no problem with rubbing or anything like that).
Stock wheels for my GT4 are 16x7.5 ET45, your offset might be different.

No link, Its all in my head from 7-8 in the tyre industry.

The only way is either having a technical book which is available or by looking on the placard in the door
