National Diesel Shortage??

Postby MrOizo » Wed Apr 28, 2010 9:47 pm

Just heard on the radio that there is a shortage of diesel till next week.

A truckie rang up and said about it.

The south island ran out last week and north islands supply was diverted there and now whole country is short.

This for real or people wanting to make something out of nothing major? :o

Def happening man, and been going on for about a month. My dad owns a diesel delivery business that is a subsidary of shell and yeah the main fuel depot here in chch has been scraping the bottom for a while now. Would be nothing for a day or 2 the a million litres over night and that would be gone be lunch time the next day kinda thing.

Yep, I can vouch for it also. We have known about it for a few months at work as we service some of BP's vehicles. They are currently trucking fuel up from Timaru to Chch each day, but each company is only allowed 10k litres per day to bring up as I understand it.

The boat was due in with more yesterday (I found this part out at 2am as I was fitting new belts to one of there tanker truckers on the side of the road at Rakia)

*sigh*
It is already more expensive for me to run my hilux than it is for me to run my supra. Price of diesel + RUC + more expensive rego. I don't know why the govt is deciding to punsih domestic diesel users considering that they put out far less pollution than a petrol of similiar displacement, year, etc.

ahhhhh well.

...well, that's not really true, most newer petrol vehicles are exceptionally clean in terms of CO and hydrocarbons (thanks to catalytic converters), the only thing that petrol engines are much worse for these days is NOx, but then diesel engines produce way, way, way more particulates than petrol, and diesel particulates aren't exactly good for the environment :P (although the newest diesels have particulate filters on the exhaust which helps a lot)
