Camera Fine

Postby BZG Wagon » Tue May 18, 2010 9:22 pm

Done to death a little I know... but...

Received my first speed camera fine in the mail today. In fact in 11 years of driving it's the first ticket of any sort I've received, so a fairly good run. A bit peeved cause I'm usually ultra cautious about my speed along highways.

Just two questions:
1) How do I get a copy of the picture? Do I have to pay something to get a copy?
2) Can I request something to verify the camera is calibrated correctly?

Re: point 2; I'm fairly certain I saw the van & checked my speed coming up to it. Admittedly there might have been another camera that I didn't spot during the long drive from down south.

More than happy to pay the fine, but the above seems like a reasonable request to ask in the first instance.

it's all there buddy, good luck fighting. :P

Legend - thanks.

Probably won't fight anything. Just want to make sure everything's been done properly & I check I fully deserved the ticket.

Then just do that?

Unless of course you never speed then fair enough on claiming innocence. But if you do speed you have finally been caught, maybe should accept the consequences. Perhaps you can go into WINZ and get a handout to cover the fine, dunno.

Was it just an $80 fine? (And to my knowledge) It's no demirits if its a camera because they can't prove who was driving?

Mum did that when she got a speed camera fine in a 1963 Humber 90 and asked if she could photo for the family album and that she couldn't believe the car went that fast.(speedo would wave +/- 20 kmh)

She got of the fine and got the photo in the mail.

the police should release a calendar with exotic/luxury cars caught on speed cameras.

Wont be long until they adopt the same policy as in OZ - get caught by a speed camera and the demerits go to whoever the registered owner is, if you weren't driving it's your responsibility to point the finger or take the demerits.

In my opinion thats fair enough, apart from if it was stolen but you can probably get off if thats the case.

Like I said, first speeding ticket ever after 11 years driving. I'm sure I saw the van & checked my speed, although on a long trip who knows how many could have been out there - maybe it was a different area & I had finished passing someone?

Given my record and the fact I always sit at 90 - 100kph on the open road (possibly bar the above) I think it's more than fair to ask for a little bit of proof.

And yes, I may as well get a nice photo of my car for $120.

And no, I do not need a WINZ handout for anything - and I'm disgusted to hear you suggest to people to ask for money from WINZ to pay speeding tickets.

This to me proves a speed cameras worth, Someone who has been a responsible driver with no prior convictions gets a speed camera fine that he probably didnt even see for going 000.1km/h over the limit.

How is this helping getting dangerous people off the road?

I used to love the speed camera billboard with a speed camera picture on it with the caption "the last family photo" So they got a ticket but it didnt slow them down because they didnt see it happen, At least if a cop pulls you over it makes you think then and there about it, not like 2 weeks later when a camera ticket turns up in the mail.

From what I understand in the UK speed cameras are painted bright colours and they have warnings to say they are ahead, they park them outside schools and other places where speed could have disastrous effects on kids etc...

Unlike here where they put them in green L300 vans and god knows what else now and hide them under trees for the sole purpose of gathering revenue.

My 00002 cents worth

^^ agree! quite a bit of research has shown that unannounced/hidden speed cameras affect the the frequency of speeding/crashes somewhere between very little and none.

What can I say, for 99% of people trying to get off fines its because they don't think they should have to pay for speeding. You might be in the 1% though and you might have a fair reason for getting off. Be it someone driving a car with your plate, or the camera was taking photos wrong. Time will tell I guess.

For the record though, I got a speed camera ticket a few years back and just paid it. Maybe I should have asked for a photo, and proof the camera can take photos correctly.... but at the end of the day, I do speed on occasion, so I just paid it and moved on 8)

whats an extra $10 or what ever on top of your $120 to get a cool picture to hang on your wall, Id get one if I got snapped, Actually I think its quite stink that the cop that pulls you over cant supply you with photographic evidence, Should make them take a picture of our cars as well haha
