Someone died as well.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3906169 ... urch-crash
6 people in a lancer....natural selection?

A 26-year-old man is dead. He was the front seat passenger in a black Mitsubishi Lancer which crashed at speed into a concrete power pole in central Christchurch after speeding off from police during a routine stop.

Six young people aged 18 to 26 were in the car when it crashed at the intersection of Manchester St and Moorhouse Avenue about 1.40am today.

Two other occupants of the car are in a critical condition and another in a serious condition at Christchurch Hospital. The other two passengers suffered only minor injuries - one tried to run from the crash scene but was stopped by a passer-by.

What a good friend to run away from a dead man, and 2 others dying.

All is not well down there CHCH it seems to me that out of all the car communities in the country this group just seems to be out of control more so than anywhere else or on the flip side of the coin are the media at there best and over hyping this I personally think its a bit of both.

yes a bit of both.
They way chch is built and layed out it encourages young people to take to cars....
Nothing wrong with that, they just needed to be beaten more when younger

No worries.
I'm in Chch too, and I am sick of them. The media don't hype it up at all.

Generation Y for you lack of discipline at a young age I feel alot of these issue's are through lack of good parenting and I feel common sense should be a subject taught at school with those to things in place from a young age there's no way we are having the issue's we are having today with youth.

In my youth if I did something wrong I fully expected some sought of punishment weather it be physical or whatever now these days they have diluted punishment so much that the youth of today are fully aloud to get away with things like this with a slap on the hand and with this in mind its no wonder they keep doing such things.

so were they doing illegal activities or purposely blocking the off ramp as a protest for the dumb cruising law?

Im guessing the first suggestion. I dont see a protest blockage in the early hours of the morning being effective Brendan! ;-)

i completely agree that are a bumch of wanker muppets........ BUT something has ot be done so people stop getting killed. Sure thet are probably the dregs of society with no jobs and previous convictions etc etc but does going out for a cruise mean you deserve to die??

and no i dont know the guy who died and i realy do think they are all a bunch of wankers

They were speeding from a routine police stop, not casually cruising, bit different. Did the passenger deserve what they he got? Who knows, he could be an innocent person or someone that's as much part of the problem as the driver. In any case, driver always should be first to go as they are the one in control. Six people in a 5 seater car running from police though, why would you put yourself in that situation, to be cool? If the price of being cool is a good chance of dying i'd rather be uncool :)

Exactly, something does have to be done, they have tried for years to change the mentality of the 'kids' on the streets these days, but they dont listen, and there parents dont help either.

Yes, I put a lot of the responcilbity on the parents, not for there activity now, but for not teaching them respect and honour. Yes, there is always the exception to the rule, a rebelious kid etc, but I bet the vast majority of the kids out doing the boy racer 'sh!t' havent been disiplined well as a kid. (Im not classing cruising in this, I mean blocking roads and disrespectful behaviour etc)

My opinion of when behaviours started to go pear shaped is around 20 years ago when they took corporal punishment out of schools. I was in the last school in the country to get rid of it, and I can tell you, there were a LOT more names on the detention "list", but they never turned up, why? well why turn up, when the worst you can get from the school is 'more detention' or a letter home to the parents. Kids didnt 'suffer' from doing anything wrong, and now that this anti-smacking sh1t the place will just get worse. Kids knew they could do anything at school and get away with it (effectively)

"BRING BACK CORPORAL PUNISHMENT" I say! It may not fix the problems on the streets of today, but in my opinion it will certainly help with preventing problems on the streets in the future.

The 30 have been charged with unlawful assembly and, if convicted, could face up to a year in prison.

Pffft,

Whats the bet that not even one of them gets much more than a small fine they won't pay anyway.

How about they acutually enfoce the punishment as well as the law.
No point arresting them if all it means is they get more "street cred'.
Send the fcukers in for some actaul jail time.

And I too agrre that one smacking was removed from school it all went downhill from there.

What struck me watching Cops the other night, is how whenever people are pulled over in the states, they talk very, very politely to the officer, address them as sir, that sort of thing. I don't know whether thats' because of the taser/guns they're carrying, or the fact that the cops over there are normally 6'6, 120kg and love to overreact, but we really need that here..
