Anyone used/use these seats?

Postby EssDub » Mon Jan 03, 2011 8:56 am

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question - has anyone here used or are using the fixed-back NZKW seats?

I was looking at getting a couple for my car but i'd like to hear what people think of them first :)

I fitted one for someone a while back and personally would never fit them in a car of anyone I cared about.
The seat mounts are held to the seat by bolts that go though a hole(unreinforced) drilled in the fiberglass shell with a washer and nut on the inside.
What would happen in a crash doesn't bear thinking about , personally I would get some racetechs , but any seat you get should have a decent mounting system ie molded in captive nuts.

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Just kinda stealing your thread Graham

What are the KW seat mounts like? Im thinking of getting a pair to bolt my evo 7 recaros into my R33.

And my 2c, ive always found that cheap seats get uncomfortable very quickly. If i could afford another set of Brides id buy them in a heartbeat!!

I quite like Racetech, from only sitting in the old mans rx7 a few times they feel comfy and solid.

I've got the Racepro Tarmac in my RX7 and love it also, bit expensive but well worth it above the rest of the racepro models.

Bear in mind im not looking for an all-out race seat. Just a good bucket seat thats (a lot) lighter than these factory lumps I have, and that will hold me in place when going around a corner with any reasonable speed. I learn't at the TS trackday that my stock ones can't really keep me still when going through the corners at speed :D

hated the KW seat and brackets and rails in my MX5, absolute garbage.
Flexed hugely under load and was uncomfy.

Love the racetech 100 I have in the car now!

Me and heaps of mates have and do run these they are good for the money but plenty better on the market for over twice the price . Mounts are not to flash but good if you cant fab some up yourself !!!

I run them at the moment and find them comfy enough

Stick to brands that invest lots of $ into R&D ie...Racetech :)

Your life is worth alot more than the monetary saving that a cheap seat will give you.

Good to see this topic. This week I was going to go down and spiff out $250 on NZKW brackets for my Recaro SR3 seats... but they actually sound pretty shockingly shit.

Can someone please recommend where I can get decent quality rails for my Recaro SR3 seats? I don't want to have to rob Celine Dion to pay for them either, just something that is good yet well priced!

Thanks guys,

I know everyone else is saying it, but think of it this way, if your seat fails in a crash, your seatbelt becomes useless. It might not happen, but peace of mind is worth so much more than the difference between a cheap seat and a good seat.

As for rails, anything that is 3mm steel or 5mm aluminium should work fine. I have a pair of racetech aluminium rails sitting in my cupboard, I think they're these ones http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/store/racetech-seats/bracket-rb1009m/prod_323.html. I have no use for them so if anyone wants them let me know.

The KW brackets look to be ok. Think they are made from 3mm steel.

thats not a rail, thats a mount/bracket

Just read that website, yea thats the seat mount/bracket.

This is their rails which are specific to what car your seat is going into.
