V8 or twin turbo? Which Soarer will make me happier?

Postby FXGTV » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:36 pm

Hey guys. After becoming a Nissan whore for the past year or so, i have finally come to my senses. Finding good cars in Aussie is pretty hard, especially at a good price. But after doing a bit of research I want to get a Soarer. I have narrowed the search down to two, what seem to be nice clean examples with minor mods. I am wanting the brutally honest opinion of Toyspeed, to give me a bit more to go on in making my decision. I had only ever owned 4ages and one 3sgte, so I know nothing about Soarers, apart from what i've picked up over the years reading the forums. I love the look of them, I just don't want to end up with an engine/car thats going to cause me significant hassles. One is the v8, the other the 1jz twin turbo.

Depends what you want one for....the JZZ30 is the quicker of the 2, has bigger brakes, less weight and easier to get more power from. UZZ30 is more of a cruiser, with a much nicer interior.
Just had a look, both a pretty high k's so lots of the under carriage stuff will be worn out unless maintained, motors will be pretty solid still. UZZ30's p/s pump leaks and wrecks the alternator.

the V8 one is a lazy cruiser that can kick ass and get off its ass\pass well when needed

the twin turbo one is the mental "ill pass you doing 180kmh cause i feel like it right now and its kinda hard not to" car

ive driven the V8 one and its awesome - a total cruiser perfect for super long trips and it will drop its weight and fly if you want it to

but the twin turbo one flys faster ;)

both use all of the fuel ever so thats no difference there

the V8 sounds much better though - if you get one where all the baffling in the mufflers has disintegrated holy $&#$% they sound good while still legal noise wise - and you WILL set off oever car alarm and scare people if you decide to enter a carpark building :D

Mmm fair points guys. After owning an rb30 I can see the lure of a v8 being pretty hard to resist if I test drive it. No replacement for displacement as they say haha. But in saying that when I owned an sw20 turbo I said i'd never go back to n/a. I guess that means I have to buy the v8 one a turbo it

haha yeah best of both worlds

but ive heard stories of 1UZ's making 350+ hp with a set of tuned extractors\high flow exhaust, improved intake\individual throttle bodies and a set of angry cams

not bad for a few bolt ons :D

Mr.Phreak - I checked out Soarer central just then. There wasn't much on there, but its worth keeping it in the loop of websites to check - thanks mate. I think the blue/black one looks like a pretty good deal for what it is. Hopefully going to check it out this weekend.

that will cost you upwards of 5k minimum lol
or get a 1j with decent intercooler, exhaust and a tad more boost and your done.

turbo for instant fast and more easy power.

v8 for more cruise and vip ness.

pretty simple really

JZ got easier manual options too eh

if you are happy with auto cruise mode i'd be going UZ personally.

for me. i'd want something a bit more engaging to drive, so it'd need to be JZ + manual. 2JZ swap for your displacement needs imo :D

I'm going to say go for a V8 one (mostly because I drive one..).

Once you chop them mufflers off you'll know why. Nothing like a 1uz sitting on the limiter with little/no exhaust

I just got back from checking out the blue twin turbo. Pictures did the car waaay too much justice. Was pretty ratty inside and out. the 20's look pretty silly in real life also. Meh, the hunt continues

Yeah...sucks to be me. Anyone want to load up a few aw11s onto a raft for me? If boat people can make it to Aussie surely we can manage to sneak some Toyotas in
