Wow, this car lives just down the road from my place. See it quite often. Looks like a pretty big crash!

I'm guessing it will be one of the Toyota Levins converted to rwd with 2jzgte engine.
Pretty sure Matt Dunn and family built them.

Reminds me why I always use all my safety gear! Even on trackdays!

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I caught a flash of this on the news tonight but didnt hear the story.

Does anyone know what happened? Looks like the rear got pretty badly crushed and the tank ruptured.

Is the driver relatively unharmed?

holy crap. a lot worse when you see the photos.
wasn't there, but looking at the angle of Matt's car (and the marks on the Subby) there must have been contact just before first photo.
notorious piece of the track for carnage, have photos of the late Ashley Stitchbury's Tranzam looking rather similar (albiet without the flames) from coming unstuck at the same point.

wish you a speedy recovery, Matt. you don't look too lifelike in the photos.

Wow, that's the worst crash I've seen in NZ for quite a long time... Hope the driver was OK - it doesn't sound or look good though.

It's a shame to see such an awesome car destroyed too.

On TV3 news they said he'd issued a statement from hospital saying he's "as ugly as ever" so it would seem so.

Pretty horrific accident though.

Glad to hear he is alive and kicking :)

One thing that I just noticed is if you look closely in the first pic in this thread, you can see the RHS rear wheel of the Subaru is off the ground.

He must have been braking f'n hard to do that.

Yea, I noticed that too, and he's also on a really bizzare line....
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Pure speculation, but possibly the Subaru was going wide to allow the Levin through and contact was made.
But that's a wild pointless guess really.

I'd say the back slid out, which could be why the inside rear wheel has lifted off the ground. Might have got a tap from the Levin when he started turning in?

It's not really a corner, more of a kink, not a braking point. A lift on some cars foot flat on others (Matt has an interesting story to tell about trying to take it foot flat with no wing :P )

Maybe someone who was there can fill nit he gaps, can't tell stuff all from those pics.

probably not a bad one, considering the last race for most classes is usually a reverse grid handicap start

That is mid crash the first picturein the original post.

Below the drivers door of the Subaru you can see the mark where the rear wheel of the Levin was when they hit.
