Altezza Wagons (Now not Altezzas)

Whats the pick of the bunch, the 3.0l 6 cylinder, or the 2.0l beams motor?
Any common faults with these cars?
Are they a decent option compared to the Suby Legacys, Mazda 6s, Caldina Wagons etc?

Looked at one today that was the 3.0l 6, full leather interior, seemed really nice inside and out. Is the motor the same as what was in the non turbo Supras?

Also, what are the tiptronic boxes like? Would prefer a manual, but seem to be hard to come by.

Theres 2 Beams motors that come in them, either the 3SGE or 6 cylinder 1GFE. Yes the 3 litre 6 is a 2JZGE (which i believe is VVTi?), but still based on supra JZ.

Depending on what you want it for, if its a cruiser id go either 2JZGE or 1GFE (1GFE Gita can come with a J160 6 speed, 2JZ is auto only i believe). Al (aka Driven Performance) converted his 4WD 2JZ Gita to RWD manual using a W series box iirc. Project post is somewhere on here.

Gita = Ugly
But that's just my opinion. Kinda look like they are confused as to whether they want to be a station wagon or a lift back...
All the write ups I have seen on the Mazda 6's have been top notch. If I was in the market for a later model station wagon that's what I would get.
In saying that though I have a TT Legacy SW Manual and love it! Really good cruising car, heaps or torque and not to bad on gas if you drive it properly.

The 1GFE is gutless and boring whereas the 2JZ is effortless to drive but drinks like a fish, but then I'm probably a bit biased

2JZ also comes as RWD only.

i really like them myself, perhaps a little odd looking but a great compromise between ride quality and handling IMHO.

my only gripe was i felt like the seats were a little small for the typically larger kiwi

there seem to be a few cars with 4wd listings attached to a 2jz from what that website i link states. some crowns too.

From memory the vvti 2JZ that it can come with has a slightly higher CR of 10.5:1 in comparrison to the Supra versions 10:1.

Also slightly better fuel economy and a little bit more torque to boot ;)

the fse versions of the jz series seem to make some decent fuel econo with nearly the same output which is good.

sorry what i meant was you can get versions that drive only the rear wheels, as opposed to all 4

Only go for the JCE15 (2JZ 4WD) version if you have arm that are thin, bendy, and strong! Changing the oil in these are a bitch!
Normally you'd go from the bottom to get a good grip but there is a axle for the front wheels in the way :oops: :cry: :evil:

We've got the fuel consumption down to 9l/100km - that was SH1 from Auckland to Palmy.

Plently of go when needed - specially for the over taking on shorter distances.

I've just gone through the same thing as the OP, bought one yesterday with the 1G-FE engine, the 2JZ was very quick, but with the kms I do i prefer a bit more economy, and for most driving the 1G has more than enough power for me now (old fogie). I used to think the Gita's were ugly, but they've grown a lot on me, and the attraction of RWD was enough to convince me over the Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis or Accord Euro. Take one for a drive, you'll be converted straight away. Smaller boot space is only only really issue, but I'll cope.

Most of the altezza's common faults were ironed out by the time the Gita came along, you can't really go wrong - I'd stay clear of that silver one on TM for 8.5k at the mo with the 2JZ, head/cooling-problem in it from what I could gather.

What am I missing with attenza's? I've looked at a few and couldn't see what the fuss was about. Cheap interior, numb road feel and average performance. I find them a bore to drive.

A couple of guy I know had huge reliability problems with the original model.

+1 for the Altezza wagon being fugly.

Hmm, so seems theres no Beams 3sge for the wagons :x
Mr's has said she doesnt want anything bigger than a 2l, will happily go with a twin turbo legacy because its only 2l, but thinks a 3l will drink too much fuel, go figure :roll:
