My soldering iron has a piece that fits in the end, and there's a screw that holds it in place. Went to get my soldering iron before and the pie in the middle has gone

Looked everywhere and can't find it!

Can I just get a galvey nail, cut the flat piece off the end, stick it up and the end of the soldering iron and screw it into place?
Or am I just going to have to wait till tomorrow to get it sorted?

I wouldnt recomend a galv nail, but an ordinary nail should work, I mean a galv one will, but it'll fill the room/house/shed with horrible yellow smoke and fumes!

by tin the end, he means you sand down the tip and melt some solder onto it as soon as its hot.

I work at dse and i swear we sell just the tips for soldering irons.
Would this work?

You do sell tips because they have to be replaced from wear every now and again, and there are different tips for different jobs.

Hi think the OP's issue is that the screw he uses to attach the tip to the iron is missing...

Nah it's the tip that's missing...
The screw is still there.
Might have to go tomorrow and find one.

They're for temperature controlled irons, they've got a special sort of magnetic material in the end which changes with temperature, they also crap out with age and fail to control the temp.
They would work though if the diameter is right.

Thanks, I thought mine was busted, lucky I haven't thrown it out yet.
