Another AE101 GT-Z bites the dust

Postby pidge » Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:12 am

Hi Guys, been a long time...

Pulled out of the Car park at work, approached the first set of lights on my way home, showing a lovely shade of green, proceeded on through and WTF!!!!!

The person driving in the other direction, and making the right turn, didn't see me...

And this is the result

+ plus a bit of whiplash

Car will be up on the Auckalnd AMI Insurance auction soon. Some lucky punter is going to be taking home some infinity reference speakers (old ones, but still working very nicely), and four Toyo T-1Rs 205/50R15 with >>50% tread.

Lessons learnt from this little adventure:
    - Don't assume you only have to worry about where you are going. The f*ckers are out to get you - I was a bit jumpy around oncoming, right turning traffic for the following week.
    - If the other party is at fault and insured, and your car is a write off, make your insurance claim directly with the insurer of the at-fault party if possible. Don't claim through your insurer, otherwise they keep the premiums for the year that you paid two weeks before. B*stards.

I wish I had the time and money to splice it back together with a front cut and a bit, with some creative cutting to keep the firewall from the original car in place. However, it's probably a bit too bent for that (drivers door opens no problem, passenger door is "stiff" to say the least)

206,000km on the clock ~125,000 by me. Original engine, some valve-stem seal leaks, cam-cover gasket leaks. 2nd clutch installed when I bought it. God I love Toyota longevity.

Oh well, time to look for a ZZT231...

Mine kept the rest of my premiums, even though I pay monthly (something about it being a year long contract), but credited it to my new cars policy. Just as long as I took out a new car policy within 1 year of the crash.

Mine was similar, but my fxgt only had 165000 on the clock, an almost full tank of 98, 90% tread on 4 Re001's. I cried when I got told it was written off. Someone brought it from the damaged auction though and has put it back on the road. So it's had its 2 new boot floor pan in a year. Would of been a tough job to get it back on the road, as the chasis was out of true from the rear shunt, and I think the struts were bent, so not sure what the mountings were like. But I guess if you have the time, and the skill, and get parts at cost, anythings possible to fix reasonably cheaply.
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983
