Golf Gti's?

Postby Garreth27 » Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:27 pm

Im currently selling the caldina and looking for a new daily driver. Something reliable and not so thirsty on gas. Was looking for a manual altezza and found a nice one for a good price but it was yellow which put me off.
Been looking at some VW Golf Gti's, anyone have/had experience with these? are they reliable, are they good on gas, things to look out for when buying one and general maintenance cost of these. Found a nice looking turbo one on trademe, but not particular after a turbo one, must just be manual tho.

Who can you believe if not professional mechanics opinions of the cars?

Mechanics have biases too ;) Nothing goes wrong on a Golf GTI that doesn't go wrong on other cars. No more expensive to maintain than any other car in their class, not particularly fast but very economical. Reliability has has more to do with how a car has been looked after than what car it is.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a euro bashing thread - plenty of those on here already.

Yea we only see the bad ones so we will always have bad opinions on them ,We have just had a service advisor that started with us from toyota and he swears he would never own a later model toyota so go figure .

All in all tho they are good cars if you look after/service them well and use genuine parts (pm me for more details ;) )

So now this topic has been brought up 17 times this year how bout a lock ?

Yeah I don't see anything positive coming from this point on.

Moral of the story, search before starting a new thread.
