Euro Car Spares

Postby thornz » Wed Oct 19, 2011 6:54 pm

The gearbox in the wifes Polo has just shat itshelf. Pretty much VW are quoting $3600 to supply and fit a second hand box. Does anyone on here work for anywhere that does Euro spares and could possibly get me a price for a 5speed transmission for a 2003 VW Polo 1.4.

At the $3600, its almost half the value of the piece of shit, so not really to keen on this.

Anyone able to help?

You went to Miles didn't you?

A member here had a $3k+ bill just for removing and refitting an engine by them. They didn't even work on the engine!

those Polos are disappointing excuses for a car. They aren't even a good alternative to anything Japanese with how they drive or the quality of how they are put together.

How long have you had it for?

i know nothing about the industry in chch, but in auckland most of the VAG stuff is pretty well covered by non-approved specialists if you know what i mean. that kind of place is usually the best option for a more affordable repair.

Was the wife's mum's car and then we bought it off them 3years ago. So been in the family so to speak since new, only has 68kms on it, and the last two years have been cost after cost, and now this one, its honestly not economical to fix it. If we take teh second hand box, it has a 3 month warranty, and being second hand, every chance the same thing will happen again (even dealer said this). Seems a common issue after a quick google.

The other option is a reconditioned one ex Singapore for around $7500, which is pretty much 80% of the value of tha car

Would never have a VW again.

I have used Euroline before and he has been pretty good when I had my Audi's. A few years back now he was right into his Golfs.

What's actually wrong with it? Is pulling it out (and installing it) yourself an option? That's where most of the labour (and therefore $$$) is.

They arent even 100% sure. This is there description:

-Road test vehicle and confirmed noise occuring in all gears under load
-Connected sound to transmission
-Main noise is generating from from the diff
-Suspect bearings have failed
-To quote gearbox being repaired gearbox needs to be removed and stripped.

They they quoted the options outlines above.

whats the chassis number on the car?

Best bet is euroline or aa wrekers up here ,altho a 2003 polo 1.4 Manual is stupidly rare and chances of a second hand one is next to impossible, I say cut your losses $1 reserve it and buy her a Corolla.
