Exaust Noise Certification

Postby Garreth27 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 5:19 pm

where can i get my exaust certified in Auckland as my car got pink stinkered for being too loud? I tried all the certifiers listed on lvvt website and cant seem to get a hold of any of them. Don't know if its because of the time of year it is.

Thanks

Very busy time of the year. So if no one is getting back to you i'd say you're probably right.

The joys of loud (how loud is it?) exhausts

too loud and too low

Measured it and it was 93db. Was too low in the rear, sits 95mm but got that sorted so just the exaust to do. Guess i'll have to wait for the new year.

Its in a bzg levin.

Do i have to get exaust certified if they stickered me for that or can i just go to vtnz if its not that loud?

Since when is the exhaust a part of the chassis that is applicable to the 100mm rule?

Wish mine was only 93db

yes 2 diff issues, exaust too loud which was bullshit as my starlet is louder than it and too low but the too low bit was correct as it was below 100mm.

Oh well i'll just leave it parked up till the new year then.

last time I checked the limit was 95db (though I checked for my skyline)

"4800 RPM if the engine has five or less cylinders and is of a double over-head camshaft and variable valve timing engine design"

"(i) if first registered in New Zealand before 1 June 2008, 95 dBA; or
(ii) if first registered in New Zealand on or after 1 June 2008, 90 dBA."

http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/stand ... ssions.pdf

so if your at 93db at 4800rpm your car is legal hell my skylines at 97db at 4700rpm haha but I get "3200 RPM if the engine has six cylinders" plus my engines from a neo so I have vlave timing as well ;)

fully not keen to make my levin that quiet but i have my ways :p

Yea it was registered before 2008. Cop was either having a bad day or he is just a prick. I had a full car load with 3 biggish guys in the back and he measured the height with everyone sitting in the car  so was sitting even lower but I wont complain about that as with everyone out it measured 95mm when i got home so yes it was illegal.

Exaust i think he was just looking for what else he could do me for.

I think the height is meant to be measured fully laden though

Never heard of a fully laden measurement.
What would be considered fully laden? 4-5 people in a car? Does it count if you measure it with a driver and 3-4 children in booster seats or 4-5 of the biggest dudes/whales you can fit? :P

I always thought it was measured without people in the car ( the greenies would call it racist otherwise as certain races are generally heavier then others)

WOW is the noise regs biased towards 8's or what?

(iv) 3200 RPM if the engine has six cylinders; or
(v) 3000 RPM if the engine has eight cylinders; or
(vi) 4000 RPM if the engine has more than eight cylinders; or

Lucky the TVR hits an antinode at 3k RPM and becomes quiet as a mouse. Most of the time it terrorises the streets as quiet as a 6.0 earthquake. Thing only comes on cams at 4k RPM!
The answer is Helmholtz!

Remember reading somewhere that it is taken with 80kg's in each seated position.
Kind of unfair on little cars which can barely move with 400kg's extra weight in them. :?
