According to a reporter from Stuff.co.nz so prob not, but might give you guys some ideas for a road trip, They are counting down from 10 to 1 and are up to number 6 at the moment, what do you think?

Personally I'd like to do number 8 and 9 sometime soon

There is a link on the left to numbers 6-9

Not sure when that idiot reporter drove around the East Cape road but somehow he missed all the logging trucks, the road falling to pieces, the lack of fuel stops and the locals who like driving everywhere at 30km/h.

I love SH50 between Napier-Hastings Expressway and Norsewood. Good mix of twisty bits and decent straights.

Really? I find that road boring and long (dreading having to drive it in about 2 hours from now actually) and it is getting a few makeovers along the route atm, more straights coming your way soon.

You realise SH50 is the goat track and SH2 is the direct highway through Waipukurau?

No. 10 for sure, do Chch to Akaroa every few weeks on average and enjoy it every time. In a van no less.

Chch to Motunau - wait what? maybe once you get off the main road, but anything up to that is pretty boring. Bit of a snooze fest much like most of the Chch to Hanmer Springs road.

Springfield to Moana / Greymouth I rate too. A few long straights, but around Arthurs Pass is great fun for a spirited blat.

SH50 isnt a goat track, its a main highway these days, which makes it a pretty boring road. Middle road from Waipawa to Havelock north is a much better road. (for roads in that area) The OLD napier taupo road was fantastic, as with the old road from napier to wairoa (inparticular to lake tutira) before they made both of them massive tarseal strips that is.

The Gentle Annie (Taihape to Napier) is a awesome road now. It has had a lot of money spent on it in the last 5 years and has improved well. Plenty of corners to keep you awake :)

Would be good to see "The Forgotten Highway" on there. Thats a awesome road. Pity the rail doesnt go there (Stratford to Taumarunui) anymore

Didn't seem like a main highway. I counted all of about five cars on it. That and all the one lane bridges and narrow sections on the Napier side.

Its a main highway now compared to what it used to be like before all the widening of sections and opening out of corners in the last 20 years etc

Agree The road between Bayview and Wairoa and Wairoa to Gisborne are alot better than State Highway 50 as you mentioned its boring and straight.

Oh I think I know the one you are talking about, turn off at Takapau and comes out at Bridge Pa? That road gets much fun towards the end, Have seen alot of policemans on that road in recent times

Yep that one :) The Takapau end is straight, but the Napier end is twisty :) Good fun at 8am in the morning with no one else on it.
