Daily driver. Windom vs maxima

Postby steroidcontaskie » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:45 pm

Hi guys

So, I lent my mum my daily drive after she ran her audi out of oil and destroyed her engine. Told her to keep an eye on the temperature gauge and coolant level as it had a small coolant leak.. long story short she overheated the car and drove it until it seized, pretty much toasted the car.

So need a new daily driver. Looking at something a bit bigger and more comfy and cheap like a mid 90s maxima or windom.

Any thoughts on what to look for in these cars?

Cheers
Edward

Would love an aristo, but don't think they can be had for windom or maxima prices[/i]

What about something like and LS400? They do like the gas, but could meet other requirements

That is true, my mother is a destroyer of cars. But I am sure she would find a way of breaking every part of the aristo so there would be no parts left for you

+1 for a maxima. We get a few in at work with huge kms and still running alright. Just keep an ear out for timing chain rattles.

Only J30 have crap Autos. As they have a bluebird box. Maxima is a good car just watch out for rust. Especially in the cross member. Could get a 97 new generation NZ camry like a 220 GL for less than 2K and they go for ever and handle well

My folks had a 1996 3L V6 Maxima from about 16,000km's to just over 160,000km's. It was an amazing car.
Towed the boat with ease.
Towed my supra with ease.
Only problem was that it's FWD so wasn't all that great at trying to put it's power down in the wet at low speeds.

They had a 1990 Cressida with the 7MGE in. The Maxima didn't seem as fast as the Cressida or as torquey down low - but it was still a very capable car.

A bit of a boat though - at least the Cressida handled pretty nice for a big car - the Maxima was very 'floaty'

the old man has a 99 maxima, its about as exciting as a luke warm bath but brilliant reliability. hes taken it from 200 - 240ish so far, and all its needed is oil and tyres. drives pretty much like new, a bit boaty but does corner in a surprisingly capable fashion. suspension travel just means comfort :P

he does do a fair bit of open road driving, so not sure what fuel use is like round town. its got the VQ30.
