Looking at a couple of solutions to the Kart contact problems.

One solution is a staggered start similar to Superbikes and MotoGP.
Instead of Kart 1 and 2 next to each other, Kart 2 will be next to, but half a kart rearward of Kart 1.
Kart 3, behind Kart 1, will be half a Kart further back from its box.
Kart 4 will benext to, but half a kart further back from Kart 3, and so on down the line.
This should alleviate the truck and trailering of all the karts on the inside line at the start and reduce the need for the outside karts to "force a hole", instead allowing everyone to merge WITHOUT contact.

Solution 2: If a kart is over halfway down the inside of you that kart has "right of line". If you then hit because you turned in on it, your at fault and run the risk of a black flag for that race (not the round).
If the inside kart HASN'T made it halfway down the side of your kart and it hits you (you are the outside, leading kart) then the INSIDE kart driver is at fault and subject to the same rules.

Learn to cover your inside line and you'll not be disadvantaged by this rule. Wide is faster but now at a realworld cost. Way the pros and cons, make your choice, accept the consequences.

If your passing on the outside, you need to be over halfway PAST the inside kart to gain "Right of Line" and force the inside driver to back off.
If you hit before this point you, the outside driver are at fault.
If you hit AFTER reaching this point the inside driver is at fault.

Deliberately turning in on top of (or into) another kart once you reach this point just to exploit this rule is a fault and black flag material.

It will be (and already IS) obvious if your driving "offensively" as opposed to aggressively and you WILL be punished accordingly. Daytona builds the karts themselves so any breakages hurt them a little more personally than you'd expect. Also the get punished through work.

I'll put my hand up and say I HAVE been guilty of deliberate contact, especially on the start, and I'm not alone. We play at being racecar drivers, and some of us are pretty damn good at it too, lets not turn into stockcar drivers instead.

I like all of that except for perhaps the starting sequence. The only was i can see that carts on even grid spots won't be disadvantaged is by having either a rolling start with everyone line astern or the same line astern formation but standing still. I've be fortunate enough to only end up in an even grid position twice and only once at the front. Not particularly good and i'd say on average you'd be looking at loosing 2 places in the 1st corner.
Maybe a suggestion, sort of takes the interstingness factor out of the start but then there is usually a big tangle at the start of each heat.

The karts arent MEANT to be on even grid spots
Kart 2 OBVIOUSLY qualified faster than Kart 3 yet Kart 3 can truck trailer up the arse of kart 1 and block out Kart 2, disadvantaging that driver right off the start!

Kart 1 is still in front, kart 2 is still second

ok, how about we try one more round without the babysitting rules and we see if commonsense prevails. However, the start does need work still.
