Avgas at taupo?

Postby matt dunn » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:36 pm

Hi all,

I am racing my car at Taupo this weekend in the SS2000 class,
so if your there come and say hello,
look for the toyspeed on the lower front bumper.

I plan to bring as much Avgas as I can,
but the race car doesn't really run economically and am unsure of how much I will need for the weekend.
Estimating about 2L per lap plus Qualifying and testing and extra's.

I plan to do some laps on friday, but how many will depend on how much gas it uses,
unless there is a supply up there of Avgas or 100 octane race fuel that is available?

Matt

race car and economic, lol.

I'm not racing, but am heading up to support those from the Naki that are racing.
I've offered to bring some spare avgas for others (which I don't think they will need). I can wander next door to my mechanic's (next to my work) and get my fuel tins that he has, fill them up and bring them up if ya want.
20-40L spare.

IIRC theres a BP on Tauhaura Rd (2 Mins drive from the circuit, on the block between Hatton and Miro St's) that vends Avgas.

I've stopped at that BP many a time to fill the race car (on 98), never notice avgas. Could be tho. I'll ask any of the guys going over if they have ever got it from there

And they dont. They said they stopped selling it two years ago.

Sorted anyway, I missed a couple of sessions of testing on friday and had enough with me for the weekend.

In Taupo the Airport now is the only place that sells Avgas and I think they sell it for about $2.30 per litre. The Aero club or the Helicopter place are 2 places that will sell it to you I don't think theres anywhere else.

I could not risk not getting any or the correct gas,
so ended up taking 140L from here with me,
and then missed a couple of sessions anyway and had enough.

Or actually it probably cost's mroe than it's worth to sell avgas to the handfull of people who still need it at the track, you'd be surprised as to how many cars that end up on the track at taupo actually use it now days

Yeah, there is actually bugger all race cars use it now, as it only has a couple of more months before it gets banned.
