I actually know quite a bit about EVO's also which is why I asked.

The engine was flipped for a number of reasons alsi including the fact that they did away with one more gear in the drive system.

I know a lot of poeple who have rallied E3's and the reason you dont hear of them breaking is becaue they replace the cluster in the gearbox's every so often ( especially after rallies that include jumps) so they do not break as they are a know weakness.

Heard of lots of those stories, but never heard of an E4 have any problem that was not also ther on the E5 and E6's, other than the AYC.

U'm adam and eve, the wheel, the 4 wheel drive sytem as used in the very early (earlier than jeep and indeed the internal combustion engine) traction engines although not a 4wd system as we understand it today and there was another one that i can't think of at them moment that had diffs and everything as we understand it today that was a 1st of a kind.
As matt said the ayc was a developing thing that they hadn't quite got right but all the other weakness's are carried through, and quite a few of the ones in the earlier models 1 - 3 are done away with, the 5 and 6 models
