i should also point out that 100% argon wont work on mig either(unless doing aluminium).

before i abandonded my projects in the shed at my rental property, i started playing with straight Argon with Silicon Bronze wire in my mig. very similar to gas brazing, but without the excess heat........ ideal for panel work.
bottle rental is via Air Liquide at $12 month.
argon reg $110
already own CO2 bottle from another supplier.
