Punishing a tyre

Postby slydesigns » Thu May 22, 2008 12:15 pm

Before the fun, I found this after a fast run over the Paihiatua track when the rear started to step out randomly. This was after only 5500km but I DID have a nail go through it and ran it flat for a couple of Kms - we think this caused the rapid degradation - Thanks to Coles dad for helping fix the flat asap.

So after ordering another $300 plus tyre, the old one needed to be punished for its failure in its duties to me.

Didn't have the balls to bag it as the neighbours were starting to take notice, but this is the damage after 45secs...

Good work.

TS Palmy always needs more burnouts.

Reminds me of a time a mate came round on his NSR250 and lit it up in our garage, it went down to the belts, and one the belts snapped at high rpm, sliced through the seat cowl and whipped him on the back. $&#$% it was funny.

Nice and you forgot the golden rule. When the neighbours start taking notice you have 3 options. Ask them if they would like to join you, filp them the bird or move into there driveway and finish it off there :)
Side note how did you manage to do a fast trip over the track with it that bad??

through ignorance.

One of the guys with me on a Daytona 955 did a writeup on the trip on the Kiwibiker site after being amazed the bike was still able to carry as much corner speed as I was exiting turns after he spotted the damage.

It was twitching around but I assumed it was just from me pushing it hard into the turns on the brakes and accelerating early on the exits. It was even still lifting the front wheel.
Then on the return trip it did a couple of nasty fishtails on an otherwise straight section that could have ended in a highside and thats when we had a look and saw the damage. Cruised after that... sort of.

Price you pay for running soft track tyres on the road I guess. Traction comes at the cost of tyre life.
