oh this will be why i spoted several cars heading toward the square. was with the GF at time so couldnt be nosie.

"We need to be sure that we don't lump them all in one basket. Just because they have a souped-up car doesn't mean they are trouble."

And im very thankful for this statment by someone in power.

If they want the younger, more troublesome lot to join in with any legal activitie it will need to be almost free for them to do it, or at lest to start with, as why would they pay to do something they can do for free.

On a simalar note; was stopped at the lights on pioneer and cook st, when a hatch back flew past doing near 100k. luckly for the traffic on cook st the light just changed to green for him as he entered the intersection avioding what may have been a deadly incident. f#@&in toss pots like this will ruin anything good comeing from the above meeting

I'd be keen to come along and even be an event organiser/marshall. It is good to see that the "authorities" are trying to show interest in those who are following the correct channels to get things done.

Good to see they were listening to / working with Julian there, don't see too much point for a drag strip near the city TBH.

What we need to do is convince the shits / majority of "boy racers" to come out and enjoy the track. I'm pretty sure they would all be keen so long as the city made it easy for them.

Generally the big problem is money, and I think if the council were willing to "donate" enough money to run a few opendays a year it would be constructive. Then it would be possible to run a series of track days with cheaper entry to allow the boy racers to give "real thrashing" a go. A lot of these guys don't have enough money left over after their loans come out, so can't pay the $70 - $100 enrty + gas in the same day.

But TBH I don't think the "problem" can be overcome, there will always be dicks out there. We just have to look out for them and stay away.

I'm keen to head along depending on what time and where. That article doesn't give very much detail.

meet the mayor thursdays are held at council buildings from 1-2pm, so i think it is likely to be during this time.
I attend drag meets throughout the north island, and attended a few illegal drags(prior to the legislation that enabled car confiscation) in our region, and i am sad to say that very few of the boy racers ever ever ever turn up at proper drag events :(

Yes, it pisses me off that the people who often make noise about wanting somewhere to go are within 1hours drive (ie, less time than they'd spend looking for new places to race, driving away from cops, doing laps) of a race track AND a drag strip. There has been a meet every month for the last few in Masterton and I've seen NONE of the Palmy "boyracers" there.

Admittedly I saw a couple of the regulars putting their car where their mouth is at Manfeild at the M&T day which is a good start.

Sounds like the meeting went well, I didn't get a chance to be there but have heard some of the outcome.

They have proposed to build a "Driver training" based concrete pad at the end of the old Golf city driving range, railway road. Should this go ahead the pad would measure 150m x 80m, which is well big enough for a few skids and will as motorkhana and autocross. I'm all for!

that would be an outstanding result if it all worked out.
bI fail to see how that is going to stop all the F-wits racing round the streets in the middle of the night? they will do it regardless, as i can hardly imagine them holding events at night.

at least it'll give the people that already go to organised motorsport events another venue to compete at. good work guys.

what about a prepaid light system out there? simmalar to the parking meters in town so the boy racers can go out there, pay for the lights, like at the pool tables at most RSA's or cossie clubs with a set time limit, then they can go for hell?

You can do that for free by taping down the crossing buttons on roads, makes the reds longer ;)

Cares about the safety. We need some natural selection!
