Roads are all quiet good.
No ice etc for another few months, and even then, only in patches.

Expect about a 10 hr drive(if you leave picton at 6am) if you don't stop and tend to drive at 120.
If you live at the 100km mark, it'll be ~12 hrs, plus a stop in chch for lunch.

Chch to Dunedin is awesome road, only weird thing is two level crossings, although I've never seen a train go across them.

Make the most of passing lanes, as non-passing lanes can be quite tricky due to undulating roads hiding smaller vehicles.

oh... and welcome :)
Where you gonna live? town, Mosgiel or in the burbs? either way, nice motorway all the way... it's the bit that guys in skylines keep getting caught doing >150km/h passed cop cars... idiots.

Pffff at 10 hours. Should be about 8 from Picton.

Get the 1:30am ferry out of Wellington and you'll be on the road at Picton at about 4:30. Pass the trucks and stuff just outside Picton on the passing lanes and you should have clear road to get to Chch about 8:30. Sun should just be about up when you get on the road too.

Done the drive from Whangarei to Dunedin a few times in one go, top of the south is the best bit

But you're a crazy fool :P

Pity there's no reason to do it anymore, would be a laugh on a bike (even if your arms fell off by the time you got there)

outram is on the other side of mosgiel(kinda) from town, about a 10 min drive from mosgiel, and mosgiel is about 10 mins from town. repco is on the town side of mosgiel.

Have fun with the cruise down.

we do the 230am (or something silly like that) bluebridge sailing and direct drive to dunners every year for rally otago.

we get there by mid arvo while towing the rally car.
its about 4 hours picton-chch then chch-dunners is about another 4.

thats stopping like once for fuel!
bastard of a trip!

i drive down twice every year for uni (and back from the holidays)

it takes 8 hours just driving the speed limit and only really stopping for gas and lunch

takes about 9 or 10 if you muck around and stop a fair bit

the roads are bloody awesome, mainly nice and straight (accept kaikoura haha) and the traffic levels are nothing compared to the north island, its a sweet drive really
