Awsome, best news in ages!

Though i do find it ironic that Cromwell can get a track together but Dunedin can't

Thats because in a small place they all know how much it will attract people to the town,

and in a big city there are too many complainers..

It is great news but it is still no closer than the other tracks from dunedin, I wonder if we are the remotest point from a race track in New Zealand??

exactly. the developers all have invested a heap of money in other sectors of Central Otago, and have more than likely read the ecomonic impact reports regarding other tracks in NZ, forwarded it to the local council who then decided 'Why the FOOk not', whereas other councils would spend a heap of money supporting those with the 'why the hell should you' attitude.

Possibly on the main islands, I suspect the chatams is the remotest point from a race track

The only place i ever see a race track being built anywhere near dunedin is waikouiti or south of the airport, but pretty much all of the taieri plains are locked up for anything but agriculture due to high class soils

Really its meant as a car testing facility to tie in with the Snow farm testing thing in Cardrona, but also has a bit of a proper race track, which we dont know the final layout of cause they've applied for a resource consent for the whole project without having the track setups finalised. It will have abridge apparently & the back part of the track is basically a high speed oval, although not banked like the US ones.

here's the website http://www.cmp.org.nz/index.html for all the details. Will be a really good track I imagine from the concepts

nelson.....picton.....fast ferry......wellington....SLIPWAY.

surely not 5 hours

although slipway is more of a drifting setup, im sure if ya pushed it ya could make manfeild (pretty sure thats the track in waiarapa) in less than 5 lol

and the inland route from nelson to chch is better than any track anyways so ya get a extreme trap down too :D

nelson - picton 1 hr 45
ferry 3-3.5 hours
wellington - manfeild 2 hours. btw manfeild is in the manawatu

slipway is more an autocross track than anything.

Sort of.

Yes, in a city of over 100,000 1% of complainers is over a thousand people (who you simply can't ignore if you're actually effecting their lives) as opposed to 10 people in a town of a few thousand - that only stands to reason.

The reality of a big town is that a lot more of the land is more densely populated and hence far more difficult to find somewhere that no one minds it being.
