I've bent something that supports the cam shaft...
I thought Toyotas were meant to be reliable? grr...

/rant

corrected title, the car isn't actually much of the issue, mostly the insurance company taking it's sweet sweet time.

dunno... maybe the 2zz don't like how I drive them? I'm not as hard on it as I was on the 3sge that was in the curren I used to have, and it lasted a good 100,000km(from 70-170).

I'm beginning to think that Sergei was right... they're just not built like they should be.

sorry guys, I havent actually found out what it really is, the Mrs works at the mechanics, well, over the road at the car sales side of it, and the workshop is all but closed over xmas other than doing compliance work(and a quick look at mine since I'm practically staff), and seeing as they're only doing compliance stuff, they are not answering the phone, so all I have is info that the mrs has passed on, hence the very vague descriptions... have told her to write it down next time.

All I know is that there is something bent and it is to do with supporting the cam shaft in some capacity, it is drivable, and safe to do so, except vvt and lift are now disabled, so it makes for a somewhat boring drive.

Pretty much all parts places are closed until the 7th, and the mechanical insurance place almost never looks at new parts, otherwise I'd have given them revheads number. :)

Over-rev - don't think so, I don't tend to drive it like I used to when I first got it, and certainly haven't had a mis-shift in it.

Bent VVT solenoid this time... it's royally fcuked, bent in the most unusual way.

Happend just prior to xmas(as in on the sunday prior), so they havent been able to do pretty much anything until this week, and this week the mechanical insurance place said wait until next week when more wreckors are open.

None of the wreckors want to give up parts from their working engines, so they are trying to source a part that no-one wants to give up.

So... they are waiting until monday next week to see if they can get a part in NZ, then if they can't, will look to getting it from Japan, and then if not, they'll get a new part from Toyota NZ, which hopefully they'll have in stock(might check with revhead just incase).

Meanwhile I have either no car, the mrs car, or a loan car.... the loan car i poos, the mrs car is acceptable, and no car isn't much fun.

So... I'm car shopping.

I know it doesn't bend easily, I've had a look at where it is, and how it is meant to work, and it doesn't appear to be able to bend!!!

They've had it apart for a 2 weeks, they've had a good look at it, one of the guys used to help build race engines and is highly impressed with the 2zz, said that there was a lot of stuff in there that they wanted to use years ago, but engineering was unable to make economically, even for racing.

We'll see what happens.

For the moment I'm looking at a Caldina GTT, they appear to be somewhat bulletproof from what I've heard... and even if they do sh|t themselves, the parts are plentiful.
