Nah because the tip is only 10% of the problem. Tips only make a 10% difference to the noise.

Getting the new resonators on 12th April. So will all be fixed then.

In the weekend I heard that the new engine has arrived, I dropped off the Oil(fully syn 5/50) and TRD filter, they can do the rest of the fluids for it as they see fit, but the oil I wanted full synthetic as Toyota recommended instead of the 10/40 semi syn that they were going to use.

All up it's going to cost me ~$250(100 for oil and filter, 100 for excess, and 50 for other fluids not covered by the warranty)

It's cost the insurance company $4,600 8O for the engine, and ~$800 sofar for labour(new engine not in yet)... ouch, sucks to be them.

The reason for the high labour cost is that they hjad to pull it apart to find out what happened, probably trying to get out of fixing it(as I would have if I were them)


To think that at purchase time I was considering not getting mechanical insurance... I mean how often does a Toyota break? :wink:

Pennsoil(?) I think... dunno, I dropped it off, I had it written down(the toyota guy told me).

fully syn 5-50 anyway.


Also went and visited them, when they were putting the stuffed engine back together for shipping, they found that the timing chain didn't fit properly, I had a look, but my phones dead so no pics... so I'll describe.

bottom cog, TDC, cog on the top right, TDC, cog on top left, chain looks stretched, and the indicator thing(on both chain and cog) is off to the left by about 2mm... looks like I fsckid it in more ways that one.

Seeing as it's a replacement motor not a rebuilt one, it probably won't need running in.

(although I'm sure Dave will "run it in" anyway :wink: )

evan if it was getting rebuilt ya dont gotta use running in oil. not all workshops use it these day's. some do some dont.

the engine thats being put in has done 12000kms, and was drained just prior to leaving Japan land for shipping(any idea why they would do that?).

so yeah, it's getting a flush oil change(oil in, startup, run to warm, drain), then mines being done, so yay.



It seems that they found the cause of the oil pump failure...

apparently when fitting very underdrive pulleys on these engines it shakes the sh|t out of the engine... yay...

so, insurance is only covering it as I haven't changed it, no idea how they prove that(I didn't but how'd they know that?).

I think its better (from what I have read) to run a miniral oil for the first 100kms, change it run miniral for another 1000kms or so and then switch...

Yeah that's what I thought..
My mate's got a brand new 2004 GSXR1000 smoke's on start up and sometime's when he give's it a hand full not something you want to see with a bike with 4,000kms on it.. His Internal's seem to have been glazed over which isn't a cheap easy fix either..
