RIP Cozmo Corolla

Postby cozmoid » Fri Aug 22, 2008 9:41 am

Well I had a bit of a slide on the motorway in some black ice the other day and have seriously damaged my corolla :( I managed to plow through a fence which sorta saved me and stopped the car rolling into a paddock near cherry farm. I was very lucky as this all happenned at 100kph! The rollla will be fixed but not for a few months as I need to save to fix her. I am also looking for either a really mint notchback body or a deregistered one for donor panels so any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't really wanna post pics but will do to help everyone understand the lethality of our winter roads.

p.s one of my rims got quite badly damaged but is repairable so if u know a engineer that repairs rims i would love to hear from ya

Yeah it is still in one peice and will be repaired but not till the new year once my wedding is out of the way and i will have started saving

Oh yeah and i have joined the mr club! I have bought my cousins 1984 mr2 4age manual which is sweet but its burning a bit of oil so im gonna do all the bearings and rings sometime soon but it goes well :). The tvis 4age has no torque compared to the 2t-geu but it has a nice pickup at around 4500rpm sorta like vtec. Suppose thats the tvis butterfly valve opening? It's a pretty good car to drive though. Still waaayyyy better than a FWD!

So the project has died a horrible death :(

A few months back i hit some black ice on the highway and went through a fence at 90kph which wasn't too bad but the body is gonna be quite xpensive to repair. The left rear quarter went through a couple of concrete fence posts and bent my rim pretty bad. Also the left rear quarter is pretty ugly too. I would need a donor car to fix the body so i have opted for a full transplant of all my good bits into another AE70
body.
Front and Lf guard damage not to bad
Image

This is the worst part. It dosent look to bad in the pic but it would be xpensive to repair
Image

I picked up a aw11 for quite cheap and swapped it last weekend for a pretty straight bodied ae70 so i have a whole new project to start :D

My new AE70 is a 1981 Sprinter SE two tone black and silver(ugly) with some very ugly commodore looking mags. It's another 2 door notchback so thats sweet but it has the funny angled front which is taking a bit to get used too.
I have already started swapping bits. Heaps of the trim and window rubbers etc i have already done. I swapped the diffs yesterday as it was pretty noisey. Im doing the front struts and brakes as the front suspension is stuffed. After that its gonna get my rebuilt 2t geu and rebuilt T50 thrown at the engine bay as the standard 3au is quite depressingly fast!

This is my ugly new notchy. Im doin the diff swap in these pics
Image

The slope front is gonna take a wee while to get used to but its def growing on me
Image

So lots of work to do. Gonna paint the rest of the car black too as the body is mint enough for a good glossy black :D
Gettin my repaired rim soon too so that will help with the looks

Im also trying to decide what to do with the white notchy. I could wreck it and maybe get some cash and some spares or im thinking of usin it for a little rally sport. Please give me some feedback on what u think? Also pm me for any parts u might be interested in

Still rwd for life

Don't take this the wrong way, but I love the new car in its current colours, it looks far more classic, and less like you are a munter in an old corolla

If it is as tidy as it looks, you should keep it original as you can(or atleast store anything you change) and keep it until you are ancient and sell it to some idiot for millions in years to come.

Hi all

Just letting all my local friends know im really keen to get this car out of my garage so I can start my new ae70 project. If u want any parts on it please let me know. I would prefer to help locals like ourselves than trademe members in the north island  Anyway I also have a bit of a problem as my back is rooted and I can't do any work myself. Is there is any1 wanting anything and willing to do a bit of engine and gbox extraction I would be very thankful. So what im saying is if u help me u can have free parts. Thanks all and please support my sad cause. I have so many mechanically minded mates but they r all too involved in their own projects cough phil cough damien cough chris cough GAVIN!!!. All awesome blokes but way too busy :(

Oh yeah i nearly forgot

For you? Unbelievably cheap. It's a big 8 bolt no idea of the ratio and the l axle is a little bent. I was driving it but noticed the l wheel bearing getting noisier and noisier so it def bent. If you help me out you could have it :) It was a bit noisey in the diff also when i took it out
