Alexandra is a great place - i spend most of my xmas\new years up there and around that area

the roads from Roxborough to Alexandra are great too - lots a up\downs and twisties - great for a road trip

as for Alex itself its a touristy town as well - gets really busy during school holidays and end of year as everyone goes there for a holiday and its usually stinking hot around that time

as for much to do im not really sure as since im only there at the end of the year its usually to check into the camping ground and then drive out to Cromwell or queenstown lol - but as for services and stuff its got the usual - a warehouse and subway and bookshops\bottle stores and whatnot

if there's nothing to do its a short trip to the likes of Cromwell and queenstown so thats always good!

No McDonalds though?

I only go there for the annual September drag racing usually or while passing through but it seems too hot for my liking. :D Doesn't seem like there's much to do there but maybe i don't know the place well enough. :)

Buy a boat or learn to hunt.

Heaps of MTB trails in the area. Wine tasting if thats your thing. Ice skating in winter, an hour drive to wanaka or qtown so gives you more options too.

For fast food it only has KFC and subway, and be aware that on a friday night in ski season they will have run out of chicken by 7pm

the caltex across the road is good for watching fights and stuff break out there too xD

although after a BIG one a few years back they have really tightened up so it doesn't happen anymore D:

also mini-truckers - mini-truckers everywhere!

i really dont get the point of a 2.8L diesel hilux stuck on its arse with 20" chrome spinner wheels - but the g units in alex love em!

Yea, its pretty mean in the summer, road trip!

oh and IMO qweenstown is awesome, the bars etc are full of good c**ts, I would say for every 10 fights in dunedin there -might- be one in q-town. great place to visit I personally wouldn't live there. Nice roads to travel up on

+1

wouldn't live there though as EVERYTHING is priced for tourists - want a shit beer? thatll be $8 for a stubbie thanks O_O

would be ok if they had a system where you said a codeword to the shop keeper and they suddenly look all shifty and usher you out to a back room for "mates rates" but that only happens in the movies D:

south island roads are the awesomest i have seen anywhere in the country.

if i lived in SI i would do roadies every weekend over some of the awesome roads with no cars on them. amazing scenery gorges/valleys/mountains etc + the occasional hottie tourist! bonus!

See if you can find someone who knows the owners of the Wairau snow farm, if you can get access to the access road is its mint. They used to run the race to the sky on it.

The Nevis road out the back of cromwell is pretty good, but don't even try it in winter, and only go to the summit in a 2wd.

I think they're still going ahead with the racetrack in Cromwell, should be something to do anyway.

What you into? Might help us tell you what there is to do

Well you won't have to go far for that lol.

Make friends in a bar, they'll hook you up with a place to shoot. But most farmers are pretty decent about it if you ask, a box of beers every now and then doesn't hurt either
