Hilux Help???

Postby PoMmY » Mon Apr 05, 2004 4:42 pm

I just picked up an 87' toyota Hilux, four door. I was wondering if the cab sizes of this model and later models differ. I cud only afford this and am a little put off by the stainless steel dashboard and placement of the handbrake.

Can a dashboard be sourced from a wreckers and moulded or fitted to the ute, dont ramble on about the price or how rediculous it sounds.

I would jst like to know if it is possible and if anyone knows someone who could do this for me or help me........... :D

Thanks in advance...

yeah the hand brake takes a bit of getting used to,

is yours 4x4? or 2 wheel drive?

whats with the stainless steel on the dash? :?
whats wrong with the original dash?lol

you can generally change the dash boards quite easly. and finding one wont be a problem. and i think theres a posiblity the newer smooth dash bord will fit.
but genneraly you should be looking for a 1985-88 model dash.

Hey bro, im west aucks as well. By Belevedere Tennis centre.

I just picked up my ute, yeh im considering gettin a newer dash fitted. its not stainless steal, its a cheap plastic and the dash looks really old and tacky. lol

Im hopefully gettin a new engine for it, any suggestions. Was thinkin of a newer hilux engine as i dont want performance. Its to help lug stuff around for my projects, and also look 1/2 decent.

changing the h/b can be tricky.....
as far as engines go theres a few to choose from
2lte, 3l, 1kzte
i can help with supplying engines.
what engine is in it now?
i recommend going to a 3l. if you want more power i know a guy who may still have a turbo one for sale

those are all diesel engines. why dont you want diesel? a petrol one limits your options quite a bit. if you want petrol theres always a 1uzfe!! but id look at a 2rz (2.4) or 3rz (2.7)

Easy, but not cheap. Ask MrOizo, he got a 1JZGTE for his Supra...
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Where would u be able to find one of these?? Any idea of prices.

I am intending on find a cheap engine for the hilux as i wanna build my own 1jz-gte or 2jz-gte for a supra. This is the reason. But im willing to spend a bit as the hilux needs to keep going. 8O

id have to have a look around but id expect to pay around $3000 for a 2rz if not more. plus your gunna need several other bits and pieces plus maybe a gear box etc. it may be cheaper to sell your one and buy a later model one with a better engine

*HIJACK*

sorry to interrupt but will a 1g-gze bolt straight into a 88-90 hilux with just using an adaptor plate?
