Just got my engine mounts changed and....

Postby nobbie » Thu Apr 08, 2004 8:56 am

Just got my engine mounts changed (front and rear), clutch, drive belts and cam belt.

However when I got the car back I noticed the car was jerking when I took my foot off the accelerator.

So off to Toyota I went.... they checked it out and said, your front engine mount is broken, I said no, it cant be cos it was replaced a week ago.

So the sales guy disappeared to talk to his boss and said oh, um no its not broken its just the webbing (or something around the edge) that freed up now that its in the car.

Could they have screwed up and they arnt telling me? I bought the parts from another Toyota dealer, whose problem would it be if the engine mount was broken??

Depends, if the mount was broken when you got the part then it's the suppliers fault. However, when Toyota put it in they should've noticed. Sounds like it wasn't broken but one of the mounts is lose. when it jerks is there a knock you can hear? Happened on mine, they guy who did my clutch left one of the engine mounts lose 8O

I could be wrong but from what ya say it sounds like it has broken.
The mount has metal in the middle then the rubber then joins to an outside metal bracket. I had several fron mounts break on my ae92- the outer join between rubber and metal. result was a little jerkyness.
Its still pretty secure, but if you just had it done take it back.
Cant believe im still a member here.
