20 valve AE82 FXGT

Postby SpeedFReekz » Mon Apr 05, 2004 11:21 am

Would i need to get my car certed because ive stuck a silvertop motor in but its still in the 1600 range just a different variant??

Also would anyone know if the brakes off a AE101 20 valve GT apex fit onto AE82 fxgt struts??

brakes

Postby fxgt race » Mon Apr 05, 2004 7:38 pm

I think the brakes will fit but they cannot be of a car with super strut suspension as i hace just tryed these an they are to big.I do have big two pot brakes on the car and i assume they are of levin with normal struts, they are in my race car which ways in at 930kg an with the right brake compound they really hall this slut up.

Superstrut 2 pots can be put on AE82's, caliper bolts up no problem, to put the SS disc's on although you need to get them machined down about 5mm or so.

Read this... and then decide whether you need a cert or not

No you cant use the Bluetop computer cos it just wont work..

you have to use the 20 valve loom and computer..
the only wires that ive had to rewire are the ones that connect to the EFI relay to the fuze box in the eigine bay and power to the 20 valve computer and starter soleniod and fuel pump
All the sensors that you need to make the engine run are just conected to the computer...
I just sorta figured it out myself through trial and error but its not as hard as it looks
theres plenty of information on the net from other people that have dont simmilar conversions

im sure someone else would have more to say

read it again, you do need a cert. for engine sustitution it quite clearly states the engine must be the SAME or LESS power, a 20v is more powerful therefore you need a cert. you must meet ALL of the requirements not just some of them.

That is just the LTSA once again trying to outlaw ‘boy racing’. You cannot do shit anymore e.g big bore exhaust systems, alternative cold air box induction systems. According to that legislation, my fx is illegal as $&#$%. And, would not run 14s quarters otherwise. Just do the conversion and find a suitable (pro boy racer) garage to give you a WOF.

if you replace an engine with one from a higher spec model and can prove that the suspension and brakes have been upgraded to the higher spec parts (MUST be bolt on) then you can get away with it

Wow, wicked, you actually did that conversion (2E being 1300cc single carb). Those starlets already fly like they are because they are very light. I am thinking about doing that next. How fast is it? It must smoke other GT’s aye?

yeah thats the one, single carb 1300, same motor you find in heaps of corollas and that. Goes better than i thought it would, ive ditched power steering and air conditioning so i suppose that would help a bit, other than that i think everythings the same weight, ive got it looking like a factory GT model now ( ep82 )

u know u could have got a much faster reply if u just rung up a vehicle certifier and asked them

in theory u could get away with it but for the sake of $250 its better to be legal on the road

Kuel. Do you have the GT bonnet (scoop); also do you still have the factory top mount?
