engine swap?or rebuild?

Postby 93Levin4AGZE » Fri Apr 16, 2004 9:54 am

hello remember i wrote a topic about the smokes? on a white AE101 Levin GTZ.
and people told me i needed to change my piston and rings?
well,, here is what happened...
i was coming back to auck from papakura, and my car got turned off suddenly. so i turned them on again, and engine dtarted sounding like the bearings are fu**ed....
but i carried on....cos i had to get to auck.
which i shouldnt have done...
and the engine started smoking and the car started losing grip and power from the engine....i was going like 50 when the dash board did 110km/h.
well...that was the last bit of the trip. the car got turned off again so i pulled to the side and called a tow truck.......

well, i got to my workshop and i tried to find out wat happened.
no oil leakage from the bottom...but no engine oil...?
the piston was worn out so it burnt all the engine oil and afterall no engine oil fu**ed up the bearings
arrgh................
so what should i do now?
get another engine?
or just get the bearings and pistons and ring?
this'll still take alot of time...
i dont really know what to do..
please help me out..
its like theres no heart in my horse? haha...
anyways...help me out..
damn i wrote like a book.i wish i did this at skool...!!!

hey, im just curious...did your oil light come on by any chance ? and did you ignor that too ?

oh, if i was you id just look for a 2nd hand engine, maybe cheaper then replacing every oil-lubricated component in your engine..

it will be a lot more than pistons and ring, and now bearings
when rings go you have to get the cylinders honed, and when bearings go they tend to rip up the crank so that will have to be resurfaced as well, its going to be a big bill to get that engine running again
best to go see toyota and price out a long block, get some brews and get a mechanic mate and some mechanically minded mates with a block and tackle and some other tools and make a weekend of it

just pick up a used engine from dodsons or something, less hassle and will last for a while...usually lol

actually for the price and avail of getting a 4agze now it could well be worth rebuilding. its getting very hard to find zes and if you do they are normally over $1500 excluding gst.
if the crank is ok (quite possible depending how far you drove it) its definitly worth doing as then you will have a good engine with new parts instead of one you know nothing about. as for buying a long block through toyota im afriad thats not really an economical way of doing it....
i can certainly help with finding another engine or the parts needed to fix your currant one.
i think what it going to come down to is can you or a mate do the work? if you are usless with tools and need to pay for the entire job then replacing the engine would be a good idea. but dont expect any change from $2500

Postby 93Levin4AGZE » Fri Apr 16, 2004 5:56 pm

well i saw the oil pressure light
but i thought it'll go away soon.
becos i got my car impounded for a month and got it back the day before, i thought the oil lights came out becos the oil's gone hard cos the engine hasnt been started for a month.
but the lights never went away...
well that was the dumbest thing.
i got 160k's on my dashboard so i think i'll just get a s/hand engine...
it's not like i can do the working anyway...
argh too much money...
thanx for ur helps guys~

o dear. if you see the oil light come on you shoul dswitch the engine off IMMEDIATLY by the time the light comes on normally damage has already been done.
let me know if you need help sourcing an engine should be able to get one to you for around $1500ish minus loom and s/c as you alreay have those

same thing happend to my mates vr4 in the weekend over the haywoods in wellington he hit a piece of wood in the middle of the road and flicked up and hit his oil filter slpit it, but he htought it was his sump that was leaking. Either way he shouldnt have driven on 2 km down the road car stoped so he called a tow truck.

the next day we tried to fix it but yea think blue smoke pistons, bearings, rings must be cracked etc. either new engine or rebuild poor bastard.

one for $1000? grab it! thats very cheap!!
the prices i quote are trade prices ie saving hundreds off normal prices.
sorry you think its too much but thats what 4agzes are worth these days.
i cant buy one trade for $1000 if i could then id be selling all i could get!
