as much as i would like to mock you for thinking outside the square, possibly to turn it right back at me by building the car planned, i have decided not to, it is however going to take some very serious engineering to get it to work but if your willing to go through with that then i can't possibly stop you.
Have you considered doing a hard core AE85 build up, same chassis and body as an AE86 although several times more common and a million times cheaper (blatent exageration, but im sure you get the idea) being such a popular car (which is a good thing!!!) for some rather nasty drift (as well as rally, circuit etc...) builds there is heaps of experience out there to draw on, and if your after something unique i wouldn't be too put off by it, drift hachis are not common over here, even drift toyotas seem to be a rare breed, you could just about count the amount of real drift hachis on one hand and adding another finger to the tally, i dont know, sure sounds sweet though
