Boost for st 185 celica

I was wondering what's the max amount of boost you can run with out melt down on the 91 celica gtr.I was told that these cars are to heavy to go fast and that you have to spend a lot of money to make them fast.

st185 is the gt4 , not the gtr. they run 6psi or 9psi stock depending on the temp of the car.mine has run reliably for over a year on 12-13psi .the ceramic turbo wont like anything over 14 or 15psi for long periods of time and will shatter eventually. 1bar or 14psi wuld be the most u wuld want to run around on if u want to keep any reliability.they wont just meltdown . but these engines r getting old now , many hav 150km plus so if u keep squeezing more power out u will eventually starting breaking things.

Make sure your unplug or block the VSV though otherwise you will have a boost range of 6psi-15psi depending on the weather conditions and how long the interwarmer has soaked.

So if I wanted to run say 14 pounds boost, what would I have to do.The car is still stock, can someone let me know what parts I would have to get and will the stock ecu be able to handle this boost for long periods.

i have no detonation issues on 14psi running the factory top mount..
get a decent exhaust and intake first, and disable the turbo vsv (good article on ts sumwhere for it) .ur boost level will rise to 11-12psi after this. The stock ecu has no issues other than fuel cut at 13.5ish psi.u will need a fuel cut defender or zener diode mod(easy to find info on google) to overcome fuel cut. mine runs 14psi with just intake, exhuast turbo vsv disabled and FCD.if u cant quite get it that high u may need a boost controller of sum sort to raise it. a front mount would be definately preferred if u can afford it tho.

How would you disable the vsv? What does vsv do?
