OIL STUFF!!!!!!!!!!

Postby TRDmod » Sat Jan 24, 2004 9:14 am

Hello
i have a 3s-gte, st 205 gt4,
i know mr2 and caldina uses same engine but for a st205 gt4, does everyone know if this gt4 st205 comes wtih its own factory oil cooler, i see this little thing in front of the car, like a little black intercooler,a nd it looks like a oil cooler.....but does anyone ACTUALLY know what this is, and can confirm that it is a oil cooler??? because i race my car and it never gets too hot and the water never gets hotter than normal, so i suspect that there is some form of technology built in to the vehicle to avoid this and can someone plese that actually knows facts.....tell me if this little black intercooler/radiator looking thing in the front of the car is actually an oil cooler, and if it is an air/oil cooler or water/oil cooler.....

thanks muchly
Have you got the hots? for what's in the box with the dots? ..... 0800 30 40 50

The liitle black box is an air:oil transmission cooler part #33490-20060, those 4wd boxes get a bit hot.

The stock oil cooler, in the ST205, ST215 and SW20 is a water/oil cooler mounted on the block behind the water pump. In most cases it's adequate for a stock motor, but once you start upping the boost a good thermostatically controlled Air:Oil cooler is really needed.

The ST205 & ST215 also have a power steering cooler, which is essentially a long tube that sits in front of the radiator.

If you're going to make it yourself then I'd use Earls cooler & fittings but it's probably not much cheaper than importing a Trust kit that contains all you would need. I just imported one from Takakaira in Japan ( http://www.takakaira.co.jp ) for 62,000Yen + shipping (around $1000 landed) but that's for the SW20, the Celica/Caldina should be a little bit cheaper but it's not listed on their site so you'd need to make a parts enquiry.

The Trust kit uses a 300mmx140mmx50mm 10 row core.

Im interested in making a transmission cooler, the problem is some how pumping the gbox fluid into a cooling device (gbox is not under pressure).

Any idea's what i could use for a tranmission cooler pump ? Something electronic would be the go.

well unless theres some kind of internal pump in my ST215 gearbox then god knows how my trans fluid gets to and then around the cooler and back again - the lines even go up-hill!
