Flushing brake fluid

Postby JT » Mon Mar 08, 2004 6:06 pm

How do you go about completely flushing the brake lines? Ive got some new rotors and pads to go in so I figured I may as well do everything in one hit. Now i've bleed brakes before but I'm not sure on flushing. Obviously, during the whole process you don't want anyone to move the brake pedal as it could damage the o-ring in the master cylinder, so do you just open the bleed valves and let it all gravity feed out?

when you flush a system all you do is suck all the old fluid out of the resevoir with a suringe of sume type and top it up with new fluid, then you go to the furtherist bleeder and open the nipple and pump the peedle till the new fluid comes out then go to the next furtherist line and carry on till new fluid is coming out the closest line. BUT ALWAYS KEEP THE RESEVOIR TOPPED UP!! you dont want to get air in the system.
thats all you do to flush a brake system if you got ABS then you gotta do the ABS system sepreate.

good luck its easy to do aswell basically just a full bleed of the system.
and all old fluid will be gone.
my 2 cents worth :)

just dont poush the pedal to the flloor and it wont reck the o ring

open up each bleeder valve (one as at time) starting at the back passengers side then back drivers side then front pas and finally the front drivers side use a clear hose on the bleeder so u can see the crap comming out

keep pumping it untill all the fluid has drained out of the res in the bonet and there is none left in each line rembering to open and close the velv with each down and up strock of the peddel

and then full it up with new stuff and start at the back again and keep flushing it throught the lines untill only nice and clean breake fuind with no bubbles keep comming out

have fun

I've flushed brakes on plenty of cars but never one with ABS, how exactly do you bleed the abs system seperately?

Just a word of advice, it is not a good idea to change both rotor's & pads at the same time for new ones. It is best to bed new pads on old rotors & vice versa, this is if you have an option, if you don't then pull the pads out after bedding them & the rotor's to double check for any buildup or signs of glazing.
