mixing anti-freezing coolants

hey everyone, i was just curious, is it ok to mix anti freeze coolant together, because the ones toyota service centre puts in is orange and the ones i got from repco is green. cheers.

Technically your not meant to. When I worked at the mechanics we did it all the time no prob.

mixing diff ati-freeze can have diff effects

i can goe on and on but the main one u WANT TO WATCH OUT FOR IS ELECTORLILIS very very bad

buy buy engine if this happens

you should be able to buy the toyota stuff over the counter.... you may have to take your own container in as it gets delivered in 205 litre drums.

hope the ones they sell at repco aren't ELECTORLILIS. it's it comes in a red container.

antifreeze

I certainly wouldnt loose any sleep about mixing anti freeze however if you are going to add some its a good idea to drain the system and get rid of the old coolant and start again with fresh antifreeze/water.
But if you just want to avoid freezing as its winter drain out a litre and add a litre of a/f

And electrolosis isnt something you add its just a reaction between the metals in your engine which eats away at water jackets and the galleries/fitting etc causing headgasket failure usually.
Antifreeze also has anti corrosion which prevents this happening making the anti corrsion properties more important in my opinion than the antifreezing side of things unless you cruise antartica on a regular basis. :roll:
